If the day before a vacation is a vacation and, in the case of two days off or more in a row, the day before the day before a vacation is a vacation, then the afternoon after a morning of meetings and before the day before the day before a vacation is as good a time as any to open up the request line.

1) Pick a character and get one of: (a) ( Read more... )

put another dime in the jukebox baby, ncis, criminal minds, fic, sandbaggers: tng, sga

Nancy Clayton of SG:A

I miss Nancy & Yoni! (And Lorne, too, but I can go find other folks' Lorne stories. You're the only source of Nancy & Yoni goodness! :-D)

Nancy's always been the kind of girl who isn't shy about her opinions, likes, dislikes, and wants. She and her best friend have been debating for fifteen years whether it's a bug or a feature and there's no resolution in sight.

On the other hand, while Nancy's always been a straight shooter, that doesn't mean she's personally or professionally interested in shooting herself in the foot. She'll go along to get along and understands that there are times when the only possible way to save face (or her job or her sanity) is to shut the fuck up. Which is why, say, she's pretty sure Bill Metzinger knows that he bugs the crap out of her, but she's never given him proof either way and therefore they can still work together tension-free.

Unlike some people ( ... )

That's wonderful. Especially the last two lines:

"He smiles at her -- sadly? pitifully? wistfully? -- and kisses her forehead, nothing like a parent and something like a blessing. And then he turns and leaves her and she doesn't see him again that night.

...it is as if the conversation never happened."

That beautiful and melancholy and perfectly Yoni. Just beautiful.

You are a treasure! You've written something that's so perfectly (and sadly) real, although my fluffy side is went "awww!" Life does not always give us fluff with a lovely cherry on top, though, and it's good to see that life & friendships go on despite those occassional disappointments.

However, I'm now thoroughly curious as to Yoni's side! ;-) Hmmm - I shall have to write that down as a possibility for the next jukebox round!

Especially favored phrasings:
once you figure him out, he's about as hard to read as a Dr. Seuss book
they're friends and she's glad for that and she stops thinking about it because friendship is apparently enough for him and thus will be for her
the look on his face is nothing she'd be able to read like Green Eggs and Ham
[he] kisses her forehead, nothing like a parent and something like a blessing

I have to say, I just found your stuff and have been sort of, skimming? my way about between assignments and insomnia.

I don't even watch much SGA. This is possibly, though not definitely, why out of all of the characters you write, I like your ocs. In theory, I would already know the others from the show.

I am just jotting this off quickly because you have forever secured a piece of my soul with Yoni. All of your characters are awesome of course, and this is very melancholy, but he is a fully realized person in my mind, and not even having read everything you've wrote of him, I want him to be happy. Well done.

And, you know, woe betide you, why must you make his life so hard! I kid, of course, but I get the sense that Yoni feels he wouldn't be good for Nancy, as more than a friend? Or that Nancy wouldn't be good for him? He plans to grow old and have many cats, and nieces and nephews that he babysits. He's very silly.

Thank you very much!

I actually think Nancy's pretty close to perfect as far as female companionship for Yoni -- she's tough, she has a sense of adventure, she's smart, and she can put up with his shit without being weak or passive. It's probably more that Yoni knows he has a miserable track record with relationships and doesn't want to lose her friendship. Not saying that she doesn't eventually force the issue...
