Question for f-list!

Dec 16, 2011 11:13

Hi all,

So I have a request. My sister-in-law apparently loves K-dramas, I just found out, and since I am really not versed in any of them, would anyone be able to suggest the titles of some good ones? This will be her Christmas gift, so I'm willing to go out and get as many of them as I can find. Suggestions?

Thanks! :D

OMG, I am such a k-drama addict! I know a bunch of good ones, but does she like a particular kind? Like historical ones or rom-coms or melodramas?

My favorite drama is Sungkyunkwan Scandal which is both historical and a rom-com, but there are plenty other kinds I can suggest if she has a preference.

Oh, thanks!! I think she loves everything - romance, historical, etc. So suggest away!

I will look up Sungkyunkwan Scandal!

Coffee Prince, You're Beautiful and Secret Garden are all wonderful modern rom-coms. City Hunter is really good, but it's more of an action/revenge story although there is a love story in it too. I also thought 49 Days was good, although kind of depressing since it's about death.

Re: Boys Over Flowers- it's not my favorite since it's pretty light on story and heavy on fluff but it's super popular and there are pretty boys involved. That's probably because it was based on a Japanese manga and then made into a K-drama.

Happy hunting!

I would recommend you watch them but I know how addicting they can get and if you don't have a lot of time to spend being sucked into the Korean drama vortex it's probably best to stay away until you do.

Ahh, I see. That makes sense.

Thanks for the reccs! Yeahhh, I probably won't be watching these myself...because my free time is so limited these days. :p But thank you regardless!!

I've heard the drama Boys Over Flowers (based on the manga) is good! Here's a link: http://wiki.d-addicts.com/Boys_Before_Flowers

I really loved the manga, but I haven't seen the drama however.

Can't go wrong with anything Hyun Bin is in! Secret Garden (body swap story) was popular last year and My Name is Kim Sam Soon is a classic (contract girlfriend & unconventional leading lady).

If you're in the US you can browse dramafever.com they've got them sorted into categories. Here's a good KDrama blog site's years review http://www.dramabeans.com/2011/12/2011-on-the-sticky-scale-year-in-review-part-1/ & http://www.dramabeans.com/2011/12/the-good-the-bad-and-the-hmmm-of-2011-year-in-review-part-2/

That's weird; your comment got marked as "spam". I think I need to check my account settings. :/

Thanks for the dramafever.com link! I'll be sure to peruse it and see which ones she might like. :)

I'm a big fan of all the food/restaurant Kdramas, which the states definitely need more of, Baker Kim Tak Gu was one of the most popular of 2010 with a above 50% viewer share in South Korea. I'm also second Personal Taste and Lie to Me is also very very good.

Oh and I forgot "My girlfried is a nine-tailed fox" funny, dramatic and it made me cry!
