My school bldg is currently under reconstruction. 3/4 of our classes are in modulars. This is the 2nd time in my teaching life that I have experienced teaching in a trailer. These modulars are a whole lot nicer than the last time I went thru this (1997-98). Still They are no place to be if fires or tornadoes happen.

The new ones are nice -- but they still feel temporary.
Like camping.

Interesting community relations work from the fire dept. They were late, so the neighbors stepped in, and this is the neighbors' fault? Having a new school must have been great, but there were certainly some unforeseen problems. There is a middle school near us that is over 100 years old and it is being rebuilt. I wonder how long it will be before it needs temporary classroom units.

We had a flood in 2011. There was a middle school destroyed.
When they finally rebuilt it -- on higher ground, not the same location -- they built it the same size as the old school.
They KNEW it would be too small when the current crop of kinders reached it, but chose to build it that size anyway -- so now both our middle schools have portable classrooms.
The school board is twisting arms to build a new middle school and new high school.
( full disclosure: because of a fatal flaw in their location choice, i am actively opposing their plan)

I liked the cause-and-effect dissection of this series of events. Nice work!

Wow! You've done a masterful job her of summing up how and why these types of subdivisions fail. And fail so pathetically. The ending is a clincher. There's so much honesty in this.

I really don't get this jack@$$ reaction. I agree he should have been thanking them, and that people have every right to do what they need to do. Seems to me like this particular community just wasn't that much of a priority to anyone who could make things better, and that's 8_77$#!^.

Blue collar communities do not matter to anyone that isn't living in them...

This is so true where I live in SW baltimore county in MD. blue collar hard working people, a lot for the railroad but we have been fighting for years to get our schools repaired or upgraded but all the money is going to the rich part of the county where the schools are barely 25 years old. Our HS was built in 1964. Finally, one of "US" has been elected to local gov't and our elementary school just was remodeled last year and now the HS is on the agenda for next year.

good job!
