Someone has sent Mary Lennox a message.Mary Lennox is not the kind of young lady who keeps hurt to herself, in a stoic and dignified fashion; Mary Lennox is not the kind of proper young lady who keeps herself under control. Even if she were, she would have trouble doing so now ( Read more... )

Ingress is newly back from an extended stay in Valdemar; summer's slip by so fast there. She's still in her grays as she slips to the bar. Tom and Door don't know, but she'll only be here a while, and she's big enough to stop in to see friends.

She's found her invitation to the twins' birthday party, much to her delight. She's even more excited to see Mary- until she sees her expression and the sign.

"Mary, Mary, I've missed you! Are you okay?"

"- Ingress."

Mary turns to her, and takes a deep breath.

"Someone," she says, her voice pitched lower, and more precise, than it has been when speaking to anyone else, "wishes to hurt me. So you ought to be careful."

Her eyes open wide and she claps a hand to her mouth.

"What in Haven happened?"

Mary swallows, and then states, loud and flat, "My apple tree has been bespelled. The apples are withered and dead."

She says it, she imagines, matter-of-factly, but her shoulders are shaking.

Mary's voice is hard to miss as is the sign and Sameth walks over, he looks tired and rather pale, last night and today have been hard,

"Who aren't you frightened of?"

He still smells of the forge since he only came in recently, working is slightly soothing.

"I don't know," Mary says, and then, with a sudden rising fury, "Nobody!"

Isn't that the point of the sign, after all?

Sameth raises his hands in a small plea,

"I believe you, sorry."

"There is only one person who really needs to know," Mary says, anger cooling a little - though not gone. Far from it.

"But as I have no way to send a note only to them - the rest may as well know too."

"...well I'm a little scared now."

An angry young lady speaking in shrill tones has the effect of dropping ice cubes down young Tyler's back.

"Good," Mary says, fiercely, without checking to look at the person whom she has successfully intimidated.

Still, it's totally a good sign that she's managed it! Today, Tyler; tomorrow, THE WORLD.

"...who are you mad at?"

He's...he actually doesn't know if he's met this girl before, but if she's on a supervillian bend..

Don't ask.

Mary does turn to look at him, now, and says, jerking her chin in the air, "I don't know. But someone has done something to make me afraid. They have made me angry instead - and they ought to know it."

And, sometimes after a great many other things have already happened-

There are still plenty of things to do before the ship is ready to leave. Which would be why Wellard is heading back to the bar, after taking care of a few items on a list that never seems to grow any shorter-

And is passing right by the green house.

Mary is standing in front of the greenhouse, staring down at the small, blackened trunk of a tree.

She's dressed just as she always is, but in her head, at least, she is draped in black.

Now, Wellard may not be an expert in plants, but even he can realize that there used to be a tree, there.

And he is certainly an expert about Mary- enough so that after just a bare moment of taking in the scene, he is hurrying to her side.

"Mary?"

Mary's head turns, with a start.

"Wellard -"

He's, perhaps, one of the only people who could have earned her full attention just at this moment - if anyone needs to know this news, it's Wellard.

"- have you heard! You must be cautious - she is back. Blodwen!"

Um. That's new.

"Mary? Are you okay?"

Does 'okay' encompass shouting at the bboard?

'Okay' is not really a relevant descriptor here.

"I am better," Mary says, furiously, "than someone would wish me to be."

Someone wants her to be cringing and afraid. Mary is not doing that, at least!

Better than someone would...

"Who?" he demands. "And what's their malfunction?"

"I think it is Blodwen Rowlands - and I wish she were malfunctioning! She is evil, and she hates me. She does not need reasons, other than that!"
