Gatsby was something of an elusive presence within the bar.

He never stayed anywhere for long. If you saw him? He'd give you his trademark smile before vanishing. He seemed almost to be a ghost, flitting about wherever he liked, never seen in the same place twice. Sometimes he'd appear as a silhouette by the lake, hands either in his pockets or ( Read more... )

And there are some who could certainly use company.

Miss Bar, it seems, was holding back on giving Mia a new worry. The fight with the virus spell already had her husband wound up in work, but she knew that would come. She knows what awaits her at home, which isn't so much worrisome as it is tedious.

She faintly remembers the man nearby and says, "Oh, hello."

Gatsby's memory of Miss Ausa was a little less faint, given that he had met here directly upon entering Milliways.

He turned and waved in greeting when he heard her voice, smile quick to his features.

"You look worn," he said kindly, "I hope the times haven't been too rough on you?"

It's been a long time since she's seen Gatsby. Or Nick, for that matter. Long enough that she's now Mrs. Ausa instead of Miss Ausa, as the rose gold band accompanying her opal ring can testify.

"Not rougher than things normally are back home, with some notable exceptions."

She does remember that she was the first person he met here, which led to the strange revelations that he is dead and she is a witch.

Well, not so much a witch right now, but mentioning that will come in time.

"How have you been here?"

"Better," was his answer. He hadn't noticed the wedding band, and so made no mention of it.

"Better."
