Generally, things move in a sequential order through time. This includes door appearances to Milliways. But every once in a while, this poor elf appears when he really ought to be somewhere else, and definitely somewhen else entirely, and he can't even have a prior history here to fall back on ( Read more... )

Nynaeve, who has been keeping herself occupied with mending by the fire, happens to look up at about the same time the door opens.

She drops her mending a moment later, bustling toward the soot-stained figure.

"Light, Glorfindel. Can't you keep yourself out of trouble from one minute to the next?"

It's been a while since she's seen him--a long while. Ask her if she thinks that's important right now.

The elf, who was looking rather shell-shocked to find a tavern inside his tent, blinks at Nynaeve owlishly before slowly grinning in delight.

Someone he knows! He thought this place was a little familiar, but it has been a long time.

A very, very long time.

A lifetime ago, even.

"Oh, but my lady, if I stayed out of trouble, you would become bored, and I cannot allow that to happen." He assures her as he bows, stiffly. Only part of this stiffness is due to wearing plate armor for twelve hours.

Nynaeve's scowl deepens, and she yanks hard on her braid.

"I can keep myself plenty busy, thank you. And--would you stop that! You'll do yourself damage if you insist on being so bloody--"

She cuts herself off.

"Let me take a look at you."

She doesn't sound like she's making a request.

Glorfindel gives his attire a sad once-over.
"It was my liege-lord who insisted on me being so bloody, my lady. Something about breaking a stronghold - you know how flighty these sorts of fellows can be." He tells her winningly, ignoring the fact he just called Gil-Galad 'flighty'. It's not as if the story will ever make it home.

A strange looking creature sees this sight and soon finds herself offering him some tea.

There's really only two explanations for this.

1) His Darkness has decided that this whole 'war' concept isn't working for him, and has now told his soldiers to baffle his opponents into compliance. It is, he muses, a thoroughly unexpected plan, which means it might actually work.

2) He is hallucinating, which is entirely possible after the day he has had, and he should walk back outside his tent and start calling for a medic, because clearly he is no longer fit to take care of himself.

Both are highly probable explanations, given the situation. He is going to ponder this for a while before making his next move.

Rem looked concerned, "Are you all right?" she asked, "Is this your first time to Milliways?"

Huh. It seems to speak passable Westron, ugly though it is. Of course, even orcs can speak Westron when pushed. It is all about motivation.

He wonders, consideringly, if it is a mutant orc. Something bred for dark places where it doesn't need to worry about the sun burning it.
