Rodney is so tired of saving the damn universe.

He wants beer.

And maybe to rant very loudly. But of course by the time you're close enough to hear, it's already too late.

It's a kind of ranting Elizabeth hasn't heard in what seems like years, and when she's walking down the stairs from her room and sees Rodney, she finds herself almost hoping he'll start proclaiming that he destroyed another solar system.

"Rodney?" Elizabeth asks, almost disbelieving.

"Maybe we're getting slightly ahead of ourselves here," Elizabeth suggests. "People come here from different points in their respective timelines every single day. Radek and I have spoken and nothing bad has happened."

"That you KNOW of!" Rodney exclaims, jumping up from his seat. "I should walk away right now before you manage to make me not have ever have existed any more!"

Elizabeth cocks an eyebrow.

"Please sit, Rodney. I don't think there's a force in the universe which can shove you out of existence."

"You don't know the universe as well as I do!" he says, pacing in circles around the stool.

"First-name basis, are we?"

"INtimate basis," he snaps. Then he sits, palm-faced. Face-palmed. Whatever.

"I need another drink."

"That we can at least take care of," Elizabeth agrees.

She orders herself an Athosian tea, "What would you like? On me."

"Universal panacea," he replies, immediately. Sullen and morose.

Oh-kay.

The drinks appear for both herself and Rodney, leaving Elizabeth free to suggest they find a table somewhere.

"That is, unless you're afraid to talk to me."

He looks morosely at her, like a kicked puppy. "It's not your current existence we'd be putting at stake," he points out, gloomily, accepting the drink with bad humour and wondering what on earth - of off - the bar has given him.

"I can understand that," Elizabeth replies.

After a moment, "I'm just a bit disappointed."

"I'm just a little worried for my LIFE," Rodney mopes.

And then he relents enough to look moodily at her.

"When is Radek from in your timeline?"

"I am disappointed because I missed you, not because I want to know about the future, Doctor McKay."

Exhaling, "He's still teaching at home. He's current with me, more or less."

He frowns. "I... I know. I'm just worried anything I say to you, not just about the future, could have disasterous results." He does sound a little apologetic and mournful there.

A worried, confused look. "You... you did?"

And then, that's a bit awkward so he clears his throat. "So. Uh. Has he.... has he spoken to - wait, is anyone here from my point in the timeline?"

"Not that I've met, no."
