Nino looked down at the clock in his hand and wondered how the hell he got himself into this situation. He was single handily attempting to change the time on every clock on the boat.
He hung the clock back where he found it and looked at all of the different clocks that covered the walls. They were all different shapes and sizes with at least 5 per wall. Why would a man need so many clocks?
Ohno sat in the captain's chair with the radio in his hand.
“Aiba-chan?” Ohno spoke with uncertainty in his voice.
“Oh-chan!” Aiba looked back at the door. Sho was leaning against the frame of the door. The energetic man held his finger to his lips.
Don’t say anything, okay?
Sho nodded and turned his head away from Aiba. He looked off into the distance but made sure to keep an open ear.
“I’m leaving port in about an hour so make sure that you stay put okay?” Ohno squirmed in his seat. He didn’t like breaking the bad news to people. He rather not be involved with the drama that ensues but he knew that Aiba wouldn’t lash out at him like Jun would. Jun would lash out at anyone at anytime.
“Aiba-chan?” Ohno repeated the man’s name in a small voice. “I crossed the international date line.”
“EHHHHHHHHHHH?” Aiba yelled into the receiver causing Ohno to wince in pain at the loud sound. Sho turned his head in surprise at his junior. “YOU WHAT?”
“It was stormy and the wind pushed the boat over the line,” Ohno barely whispered into the radio. All connections went silent for a moment. “I’m sorry?”
“It’s okay Oh-chan,” Aiba returned to his happy demeanor. “It’ll take me a bit longer to get to you but I know you can deal with having a guest for about an extra week. I’ll actually leave right now.” Aiba lifted his thumb from the button and looked back at Sho. The two men nodded at each other and walked out of the room.
Ohno didn’t want to tell Nino that he would be staying with him for an extra week so he didn’t tell him. The less he knew the better, right?
That night Nino finished changing the time of every clock on the boat then the two men went to bed.
The next four days were calm. Their daily schedules consisted of Ohno waking up early to catch a large fish that the two of them could eat all day. Nino them woke up a bit later to help clean and cook breakfast. Ohno would spend the time between meals catch-and-release fishing. Nino would clean. He could get used to a life like this.
On the second day Nino found an old guitar in the mess of a boat. He dusted it off with a rag and placed his hands on the strings. The metal wires reminded him of a time before Maki. A time where he wanted to become a musician. He wanted to tour the world with his old guitar but soon Nino got caught up in the cooperate grind. He them met his future wife and got sucked into her world, leaving the things he loved behind.
He strummed across the strings only for his face to scrunch up in disgust. His left hand quickly made it’s way up the neck of the guitar and hastily tuned it. Nino let his hands move on their own, playing individual chords at a comfortable pace. In this small moment the salary man was happy for the first time in a very long time.
Nino continued playing the old guitar into his third day with Ohno. Even if it was for small moments of time throughout the day, Nino enjoyed being with the fisherman. They would talk about very light subjects for hours on end. They wouldn’t be overly serious with each other. They couldn’t be. Nino thought that he would not be on this boat with this man for much longer.
Sometimes the small glaces or smiles between them would make his day. A misunderstood blush would rise to his face for a moment before fading away. Nino was a married man, there is no reason for him to have a flushed face for anyone but Maki. No reason whatsoever.
Ohno noticed Nino’s small glances. He noticed them and he loved them. He love the fact the someone wanted to be around him. The fisherman wanted to keep this fantasy alive as long as he possibly could. He didn’t just want companionship anymore. He wanted Nino’s companionship. No one else would suffice.
Maybe Ohno was falling too hard, too fast. Just maybe. But he knew that what he felt for Nino was not like anything before. The way his stubby fingers graced upon the guitar. The moles on his face. His smile, his laugh, his voice, his playful gestures.
The end of the third day was quickly aproaching.
“I’ll make dinner tonight.” Ohno placed his hand over the hamburger hand that was wrapped around the kitchen knife. He carefully unwrapped the fingers from the knife and gently cast him aside. Nino was shocked still by the action. Ohno usually was more passive than this.
Ohno felt that it was time to give Nino a break from cooking all of their meals. He deserved to be treated. Slowly, the fisherman cut the vegetables that lied on the cutting board. it was time to show off what ever cooking ability he may or may not possess.
“I wanna surprise you,” Ohno noticed Nino still standing next to him, not saying a thing. “Go outside and enjoy the nice view.” Nino silently obeyed the older man’s orders and walked out the door.
The sun was setting as Nino felt the warm wind blow through his hair. A flock of seagulls flew overhead. Everything was so perfect to him. This was a great time to shift through all of his thoughts.
Blushing? Why the hell do I blush whenever he smiles? God damn it I’m stra-
White, gooey, poop. One of those god forsaken birds decided to take a crap in Nino’s silky black hair. He didn’t want to go back into the main living quarters. Ohno wouldn’t want him to come in too early.
Nino took the exterior stairway to the captain's quarters. Once inside he found a towel placed on top of a low bookshelf. He picked up the towel and tried to wipe the bird’s foul deed off of his hair. After getting most of it off of his hair, Nino noticed what was placed on top of the shelf.
“What is this?”
A/N: This really took me a lot longer than i had originally planned. I just could not write the last three hundred words or so and now that I've written them I still don't like them. Oh well, the story is till going the way I want it to and that's all that matters.
Chapters will start to be coming at a slower pace. School starts on the 22nd and I haven't even started my summer homework yet. I also have marching band which consumes a huge chunk of my time.
Since I'm going to be really busy for the next few months I'm going to need a lot of encouragement to keep this series going.
