Title: It's You: The Last Call
Pairing: SiHan
Rated: PG-13
Disclaimer: Neither Hankyung nor Siwon are mine
Summary: A phone call breaks two loving hearts
Hankyung took out his cell phone, scrolling down to an ID he didn’t necessarily need to look up to be able to dial the number. He knew the number by heart, he had it put on speed dial and he had it as the last dialed number. But he still wanted to find that name and see it with his own eyes, savoring the mixture of feelings that overwhelmed him when he read it.
Siwon.
Upon seeing the name, Hankyung’s courage betrayed him completely and he exited his contacts list. He felt his vision blurred by the incoming tears as he tried in vain to fight them back. It didn’t help when his phone suddenly vibrated violently and rang its melodious tone. He glanced at the screen, hoping to see the caller ID confirm his hopes, hoping to see his sweetly smiling picture telling Hankyung that all hope was not gone. But when the number came out unrecognized, he only felt himself double in sorrow.
He didn’t want to answer. He didn’t want to talk to anyone. He only wanted one person and one person only. He didn’t want anyone else. But something, a small voice whispering silently into his heart, told him that he would dearly regret not answering the call. And so, he picked up.
The voice on the other line was unexpectedly the one he had been yearning to hear.
Siwon.
That achingly familiar clench of heart brought his fists to his chest, as though it would lessen the pain somehow. He clutched at it, he punched it, he wouldn’t take his hand of where his heart was, in fear that the love he felt for this man on the other line would escape him if he let go. Just like how their happy times of love had slipped through his fingers so easily without even giving him a chance to fight for it. The tears were helplessly pouring out without much constraint on Hankyung’s end.
“Siwon…how could you? How could you leave me? Don’t you know how much I love you?”
“I’m sorry. I wish I could tell you just how sorry I am for hurting you this way. It hurts me too. I never wanted to leave you. I miss you too much. I made a bad decision and now I have to live with the consequences. But I never wanted you to carry the burden too. I’m sorry. Please forgive me….”
“How can I forgive you? I don’t have you anymore. My heart cries out for you. I feel empty without you. I need you. I love you too much…”
“Hankyung…I promise, I will return to you someday. I promise I’ll fix all of this. I promise I’ll make you happy again. I promise I’ll never leave your side again. I promise I’ll do whatever it takes to have you in my arms again…”
“I thought you said you’d never give up on us. I thought you said you’d fight for us. I thought you didn’t care about other people. How could you, Siwon?”
“I’m not giving up; I’m fighting. And I need to win this fight…for us….”
“Siwon…please just come back now….”
“I’m sorry, Hankyung. I have to do this. For us. For you. Because everything I do has always been for you. My mind, my body, my heart is willing to go through anything, because it knows that it’s you I’m fighting for….”
“Siwon….”
“Hankyung…I have to go. I love you.”
“I love you, Siwon. Please don’t go….”
“I’m sorry.”
With a very heavy heart, Siwon replaced the receiver of the public phone back onto its cradle. He clenched the receiver, hearing Hankyung’s echoing words forbidding him to go. The voice that comforted him so much and provided with such a homey feeling was a long way away now. He felt the burning sensation form at the corner of his eyes, indicating that his tears were threatening to spill at any given second. But he fought them. He had to fight his own feelings if he was to fight for him and Hankyung. He had to fight for their sake. Their future.
Gathering up all the strength, courage and composure he could muster, Siwon stood up straight, taking a deep breath. He straightened his crème-coloured coat and turned his back on the payphone, walking into the dark of the night. He wrapped his coat tighter around himself, bracing himself for what was to come. At the exact same moment, Hankyung was tightening his own crème-coloured jacket, trying to warmth himself from the emotional cold and the freezing wind. The two men, despite the miles between them, despite the wrenches of yearning and longing and overwhelming love that tugged at their hearts, despite all the circumstances that prevented them from being with each other, felt an unexplainable warmth seep through them as they shared that same gesture.
