I think in this instance, the Van Gogh style and choice of colours works so particularly beautifully with the subject.
I'm sure I'm not telling you anything you don't already know, but I went to an exhibition of Delacroix and his influence at the National Gallery in London, and one of the things I picked up was Van Gogh's admiration for Delacroix's use of the colour combination Prussian blue and yellow. It feels to me as if you tapped right into their inspiration here!
They're all stunning. I love them all but that drawing of Merlin in profile is my favorite. The black frame compliments it beautifully. I don't remember ever seeing Arthur and Merlin engaging with Kilgarrah before. It's great, too.

Prussian Blue and yellow are the two colours I use for everything lol :)
