This is a very powerful and intriguing insight into Gaius, his past and his relationship with Uther.

I'm here on a rec by cinnatart and I'm really glad she guided me here... It's awesome to read such a thoughtful fic about Gaius - who he is, his history, his ponderings, his certainties and uncertainties. I am very interested in the echoes of Merlin and Arthur in Gaius and Uther, so really enjoyed you exploring those. I also loved Gaius's musings about why Uther had hated/blamed Nimueh, while continuing to love and trust Gaius - and even after all this time, Gaius doesn't have all the answers, by any means. I loved the opening, where Gaius is surprised by his own gravitas... Actually, I really loved that. And then the echo in the conclusion with his vulnerable plea of 'Do not leave us'.

Excellent work! Thank you for writing and for sharing! ♥
