Using the Cup for more than 12 hours???

Third period using my Diva Cup and so far so good! Even with this flu, I keep coughing and I haven't had any issues with the cup moving around and leaking. I think I'm getting used to it with removal and insertion and everything... Now I just have one question ( Read more... )

success stories, divacup, health risks, continuous use

I don't think that would be a big deal. Anecdotal, but I've left mine in for 14 hours on a light day before by accident (I forgot about it) and I was fine. Conversely, I left it in for 6 on a heavy day and started feeling lightheaded--I discovered it was really full so I think I was having some kind of reaction, I really don't know, but I do empty more often on my very heavy days.

If you're a light bleeder though, I would think one extra hour would be fine.

Yeah probably! I'm just concerned... after all they put stuff like that on the instructions for a reason. With tampons it's TSS, although I've never had a problem when I accidentally left one in now and then (guess I'm lucky... and I'm glad I don't have to rely on luck anymore lol)

I guess I'll try it and see how I feel... probably won't be an issue and it's only once or twice a week every month for this semester depending on when I get my period so...

hmmmm... I'll see about that... I actually need to find a gyno cause I don't have one. Never really been in for this kind of thing so I've never been to the gyno before, thus I haven't chosen one to talk to when stuff like this comes up.

I routinely leave mine in for more than 12 hours when I am having a light day. I think my record is 48 hours (I totally forgot it was in! Whoops!). I've never had a health problem (been using 7 years).

The worst that happens to me when I leave my cup in for awhile is that it gets kind of a funky (but faint) smell, which usually doesn't go away until after I've soaked/boiled it at the end of the week. Other than that, I've never had a problem.

I, uh...might regularly wear mine for 24-36 hours on light days. I've had no problems whatsoever. Of course, every body is different. If your body is okay with it, go with it! Like you say, it's only an extra hour or two. ;)

I think they probably put the 12 hour limit on their instructions just to cover their own butts - just in case something goes weirdly for someone.
