If Ren was asked to describe all the nature spirits in the forest, his answer would be "annoying". That's why he preferred having jiangshis around - at least they weren't noisy.
Other than being irritated by ghosts, he felt rather satisfied. Ha hadn't fought any shamans for way too long. A good sparring match was the best training he could think of - and if he wanted to become Shaman King, training was essential.
Ren looked down at Kinraiken he was carrying (he wasn't even sure why he had named his sword like that), thinking that fighting with it wouldn't be as comfortable as with a kwan dao. He was also quite sure it wasn't as good medium as Basontou, but he didn't have much choice.
Approaching the clearing he immediately noticed his opponent. "Are you ready?" Ren asked without further ado.
Lyserg felt fairly confident in his fighting abilities. He had seemed to recover more memories of battle than Ren had so far; which would definitely come in handy - especially since he hadn't divulged all of his knowledge of fighting yet. Plus, in his memory, he'd beaten Ren pretty easily, hadn't he? Then again, the elements were tipped in his favor for that battle.
Also, was that a sword...? He didn't remember that.
"Right," he said, sounding a lot more sure of himself than he was feeling. "I'm ready."
Quickly integrating Morphine with Elizabeth, he decided to try and keep the element of surprise in his favor. Using his pendulum to wrap around a tree branch, he sent himself neatly flying into the treetops, where the leaves cameoflagued him well.
Ren didn't like unclear things and wasn't likely to believe someone's words without seeing the proof with his very own eyes. That also applied to Lyserg telling him he had beaten him. No, there was no way the heir to the Tao family would be defeated so easily.
With that thought in his mind, Ren observed Lyserg flying towards the nearby tree. Come on... He wasn't going to hide there all the time, was he? Looking at the place where his opponent had disappeared in leaves, Ren used Bason to create his Over Soul and decided it was a good time to check if Kinraiken was worth anything.
Swinging his sword, he used the attack he had remembered earlier. "Chuuka Zanmai!" Just as he had thought, the sword wasn't nearly as strong and his Basontou. Still, it had enough power to cut the tree down.
As the tree fell - or perhaps right before, it was hard to tell - Lyserg had scrambled into the adjourning tree, barely making it. Gravity called very quickly, and he struggled to regain his balance.
Safe for a few seconds, he stopped to ponder his next course of action. Hiding had bought him time to observe and plan, he planned on using that time as well as possible.
It seemed like Ren's technique was less elaborate and more of the brunt force type. Before, he'd managed to win by surprise, and shattering the other's weapon. Now that it was a sword, he'd have to change tactics.
