More damage

To me. The bikes are fine. In fact, it took Scott longer to put the bike on the back of the truck than it took for the bike mechanic to shift the horn/brake assembly back into position on the side portion of the handlebar. Apparently, the actual metal part of the handlebar was completely unscathed. I had no idea that the horns could bend so much! ( Read more... )

Well as long as you the bikes are okay, that's all that really matters.

(And you are confirming my instinctive "eeek" reaction to pedals with clips)

Heh. :)

It's all good. I took a 47 mile ride today and am looking forward to riding again tomorrow. But not that distance.

When I got home, Scott was horrified to see the bloody scratches on my left arm and leg, fresh bruise on my right arm, and streaks of blood from knee to ankle on my right leg.

I can understand his distress ... I think maybe you misunderstood what "no pain, no gain" means?

He's looking to develop a line of cycling clothing made of bubble wrap for me.

LOL! ... perfect!

and hey - did you know you can get bubble wrap in stylish colors?

I did not know that. I've seen the standard clear and we have some pink bubblewrap at work, but color coordinated bubble wrap has so many possibilities...

comes in colored sheets or rolls

for protective suit use, the rolls would probably be best ... might even make for some extra fun ... oil you up, then wrap you up ... get exercise, be protected, and get the effects of a mobile sauna, that you're wearing ... use the colors properly and passerbys won't even know you're naked under the wrap

Glad you're recovering. Now you know why I will never use shoe clips. I like to be able to fling my leg out in case of sudden stops.

Yeah... it's kind of scary. But I was feeling good enough today for a ride to Purcellville and back. Whoo hoo!

Did Scott loosen the clips &, if so, did that work for you? Dented Mel makes everyone sad (especially Scott).

Not yet, but the tight pedals are on the hybrid. I used the road bike for the Purcellville ride.

Maybe a Kevlar suit instead of bubble wrap? Bubble wrap doesn't really breathe that well...

So glad that you're enjoying the bike riding, but do try to take care of yourself ok? Scott isn't the only one worried by all the falls and scrapes!

Ooh, there's also that material which is supple until impact at which point it becomes stiff armor. It might be a little bit pricey for our budget.

I am happy to report that I made it through yesterday's ride without incident, and I got to play good Samaritan to another cyclist who crashed by giving her wet wipes and a bandage.

I've seen people in the ER who couldn't unclip in time. I wouldn't use them. You're a brave one.

I know I've been extremely lucky that my falls have been at complete stops or very low speeds. I shudder to think of the damage a high speed crash would do.
