I don't think it was a sequel to anything - it just is. And I think Sharktopus would be angry for being associated with such a low budget TV movie like "Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus" - don't you know that Sharktopus has his own agent and has already won numerous awards for his acting skillz? :P
