i used Windows laptop during med school but now i'm switching to MBP recently. Never tried using macbook air tho' but for me, MBP 13" i7 is perfect, it's not that big, so you can carry it around inside your backpack anywhere. Big enough HDD capacity for keeping enormous surgery video files and ebooks. it's fast, run smoothly, built in DVD driver (compared to Air).

idk, i'm not an IT expert, my brother choose it for me and up until now, i don't have any complaints
hope this help :)

I have a macbook air. But It is likely new models will be out in two years anyway.Just buy whatever you prefer, you have two years.

What specifically do you want to laptop for? Honestly, its possibly to get through medical school with a bottom of the line netbook or 15 year old, archaic desktop...sometimes even no computer depending on the school you go to.

Can you wait until you find out where you are going or do you need a computer STAT? If you can wait, id say do that until you find out what computers your school/hospital support. Sometimes there can be compatibility issues.

That being said, I use a Macbook pro, 13". I'd recommend it for the same reasons the above user, but be warned: it MIGHT not be compatible with you school's system/EMR.

That's the thing, I'm not sure what the laptop would be for. Notes, I'm sure. But I don't know what else happens in med school that you'd need a laptop for?

Anyway, yes it's true that I'll probably wait.

One of the reasons why I say this is because I am finishing up residency this year and my hospital has a system such that you can access notes and patient charts offsite. However, its not the most Mac friendly and was easier to access when I had a PC. Our computer help people will assist you with your personal computer if it has a windows based system, but are a little afraid of touching macs. I do not know how common a problem with this, as my hospital is a little weird and our system is a little ass backwards ( ... )
