You're not the only one. I'm 100% it's the same machine. As for what it means, I'll reserve judgment for a while yet.

I thought they looked like Munch's The Scream. Or possibly the gas mask monsters from Pink Floyd The Wall. Are you my mummy?
Then, they make use of his image, sending a convincing fake to 2011 and four unsigned invitations to The Doctor and his crew.
Except they establish a character specifically to point out that it's not a clone but the really real Doctor. And when has Mark Sheppard ever played a less than reliable character, eh? :)

Another thought that just popped into my head: (paraphrased) "Rule one. The Doctor always lies." -The Big Bang-
I can see a bit of The Scream in them, I guess. It's been too long since I watched The Wall.
I mostly haven't been able to make heads or tails of this episode. (And that's exactly the way I like it!)
