A provocative story, in the pain and horror of John's violation and permanent physical alteration by torturers, but provocative in other, more productive ways, too: John and Rodney begin talking about their sex lives, however awkwardly and incompletely, when they are just friends, and while they continue to communicate and acommodate--verbally and nonverbally--about their sexual needs and relationship even after John's impairment. A model for what people with disabilities or age-related issues--ranging from mild to godawful--do when they have caring, knowledgeable, and trustworthy partners. And a further indication of the rapport and love that Rodney and John share

I especially love your Rodney in this - he's a great combination of slightly toppy confidence and anxious care, and his instincts with John hit the mark. I like all the negotiation and the way they feel their way with this new spanner in the works (as it were) and make it work despite everything. Also I love how the remote becomes a physical manifestation of trust. And, surfing timeshare beach house FTW!

What a perfect way to explore John and Rodney's relationship. All of John's trust and intimacy issues distilled down into a button, and Rodney is steady and supportive and kinky, careful of John's feelings, but more than willing to find John's button a turn on. I'm just so proud of both of them for dealing with this and not giving up. And you, you made PowerPoint sexy! That alone is amazing, but the thought of Rodney getting all hot from John flipping through presentation slides with the remote -- and making John aware of this so he has no choice but to think of Rodney the next time he's giving a presentation -- that is a thing that has never been hot before, but in this context it's a pretty big thing, and another step toward John accepting how his body's been changed.

This is also beautifully written, all the little character details, like Rodney frowning at his laundry as if it's let him down, just made me want to clasp my hands to my chest because they're so wonderful. I really love this.

I like the relationship here because John has someone he can trust in Rodney and knows that trust will never be violated.

Oh my goodness, I love this to pieces. This fic goes to a lot of dark places but the ending just filled my heart with warm fuzzies. I really like your slow development of John and Rodney's friendship/relationship, the exploration of their shared trust, and, last but not least, John's love for the freedom to eat potato chips in bed for breakfast. Because, speaking as a woman currently eating chips and salsa in bed at 1 am, that's definitely a perk of the single life.
