This is really cool

Ever since I found out about image sonification (converting an image to a sound or vice versa - in this case, with the horizontal axis corresponding to time and the vertical axis corresponding to pitch), I'd wondered if anyone had ever been able to listen to music "upside-down" by reversing the image vertically so that low pitches become high ( Read more... )

That's not a program I've heard of, but I do think I get what you're trying to explain. It sounds really cool, and I'm starting to wonder if it will come up in the new programs that they're adding to my university (apparently there's going to be new majors that integrate visual arts with music--Sonic Arts or something like that).

Is this at all related to MetaSynth?

MetaSynth isn't the program I was trying to describe, but it does look similar to Photosounder (the program I did find while looking for the one I don't know the name of) and it does look really cool too!

And for the record, I was saying that anyone who couldn't understand my description of the other program probably doesn't have it, not that anyone who doesn't have that program can't understand my description of it. If that makes sense.
