My newest anti-procrastination plan

Jul 17, 2011 22:25

Today I finally came up with a new system to help me not only avoid procrastinating my creative vortexes (and similar things), but avoid always working on things that I won't need to finish for a while just so I won't have to work on the ones that are due sooner ( Read more... )

I always work on a rewards system when I need to get something done. Like, one paragraph of an essay might equal one YouTube video, or a whole page might be an episode of the Colbert Report. It's the only way I EVER have motivation to get things done.

Me too - this pretty much is a rewards system, just a really complicated one. (Especially when I earn fractions of procrastination points with unlike denominators, because they add to complicated fractions such as 1 131,977/2,001,000. Thank goodness for my TI-92 calculator...)

Well, you know how some people have to have reward systems in order to keep from procrastinating anything? That's the basic idea behind this, except since I tend to work on things that I can wait until college to finish just so I won't have to work on stuff I need to do before college, I made it so I get rewarded more for doing more important things.

So far, it's much better at keeping me from procrastinating than my New Year's resolution, but it can get annoying sometimes - for instance, if I weren't doing laundry today, I wouldn't have gotten to reply to your comment until I was done downloading the entire Brain Challenge soundtrack :P

That sounds amazingly complex.

In that case, be glad I only posted examples of point values for various things, rather than the point values for absolutely everything :)
