Cerulean Sins - Chapters 43-46

The small antechamber outside the banquet hall isn't exactly full, but there are enough vampires and weres in the space to make it feel crowded as the energies mingle and flare in an intimate, invisible dance. Jean-Claude moves among the various members of both Musette's entourage and their own, ensuring that nothing untoward was occurring on either side.

When he senses Anita standing in the adjacent room, he makes his way to the long, black drapes blocking the space from the banquet room and pushes through.

The banquet is in one of the inner rooms of The Circus. No man or vampire created this space. It is a natural cave, deep below St. Louis. During Prohibition, it had been converted into a speakeasy. They had installed gas lights that now burn with a soft and clean glow.

The room is dominated by the long and beautifully apportioned banquet table. White and gold are the primary colors, set off against the dark, dark wood of the carved chairs. Between each chair had been placed a complete place setting on the floor, atop a white linen napkin.

Anita is standing near the table, seemingly transfixed by the gleam of the gold flatware and bone china. As Jean-Claude approaches her, he feels more than hears Asher following behind, clearly uncomfortable at being in the same room as Musette without Jean-Claude.

"Ma petite," he begins, "our guests are asking for you."
