When you start with kanji, you'll probably have to rely on memorization. However, you'll probably also get at least related sets, like numbers and days of the week. That may help.
Eventually you'll start to see the same radicals (components) come up, like something that appears like a mouth in those for speech, language, and so on. That too may help you.
So far, the only relation among the kanji we have (at least, that I can see) is that they were all words mentioned in chapter 13. If you are familiar with the Japanese for Busy People series, you might also remember that words in the same chapter often bore little resemblance to one another.
