Friendships

It pains me to see how superficial and disconnected friendships have become. I remember days when people spent 6 hours on the phone with each other just because, they didn't even have to be dating. Now if I actually call someone they act all awkward and are confused as to why I didn't just send them a text message. Phone conversations are forgotten ( Read more... )

I agree that it's terminally easy to say 'we should keep in touch' and not do it. That's a bad thing. But I'm all for texting or messaging instead of using the phone. I stutter on the phone, and so do alot of people I know. Writing works better for some, and that's okay.

I'm amused at the guy I largely think of as "Instant-Message-Man," who spent a significant portion of his time at school on IM with long-distant friends, is complaining at the text-based nature of modern communication.

But I agree with you, to a certain extent. It's much easier to have a "real" conversation by voice, because when you're texting or typing one party can go silent for ten minutes to watch part of an episode of Doctor Who for a while without the other party noticing.

Feel free to call me if you feel like chatting. I already spend an hour on the phone on any given day, another few minutes isn't a big deal.

Up
