And that right hand was about to deal a damaging blow to all of mutant kind.

The button was pressed.

In the background, an innocent soul screamed out as he went through an unholy amount of pain.

Music to this man's ears. For the first time in a long time, something nearing a smile approached his lips. That one was going to be far from the last to suffer this day.

Xavier was pouring himself a cup of tea when it happens.

His eyes widen, suddenly, his hands shaking as he starts to hear...distantly, he notices that the pot has shattered, his hands are burnt and bloody, and that he's fallen to his knees, cradling his head in his hands as desperate tears pour down his face and a silent scream wracks a body that is physically incapable of processing the sheer psychic horror the Professor has just experienced.

"Nuh..." Professor X manages, "...no..."

Northstar was on his way to the kitchen himself, when he heard the crash and he rushed into the room to find Xavier on the floor.

"Mon dieu! Charles!?" He almost yelled out as he went to the man's side, "Are you alright? What happened?" He saw the man's bloody hands and frowned, "We need to get you to Hank."

"...Screaming..." Xavier murmurs-forcing his eyes shut as swirling colors and psychic illusions twist around his head, some warping into odd, prismatic tentacles that brush and reach for Northstar's ripe, exposed mind...

"...yuh-yes..." Xavier grits out, reaching out and physically grabbing one of the mental projections that gets a little too close to Jean-Paul. "...that would be...wise..."

Jean-Paul picked the man up and rushed him towards the infirmary, trying to go fast enough as to not be seen by any students milling about, but some of them probably noticed him. After all, with the extra weight he couldn't move as fast as he could.

He burst into the infirmary and put the professor down on a nearby bed. "Hank?!" He yelled out, hoping to get someone's attention. "HANK!?"

The Cuckoos sisters were in the rec room, each one looking over the others work, five times over. Silent communication passed between the five in an instant and then all of a sudden each five of them felt... something.

They weren't quite sure what it was, but it was like a bomb went off in their brains. Each one of them, by the nature of their bond, reflected it back at the others and there wasn't any way to buffer it.

Each girl grabbed her head and screamed. Not one of them could buffer it for the others.

Johnny was vacuuming up the rec room when all of a sudden the Cuckoos apparently lost it. He dropped the vacuum and rushed to the one closest to him. "What's going on?" He looked around the room at the other four.

"Somebody help!"

Not one of them had enough of a presence of mind to speak, so they didn't. Though Sophie was barely, just barely, holding back screaming now.

The other four? The screaming took on a psychic life.

Johnny reeled back as the scream crashed through his head. "Holy SHIT!" He held his head, staggering away from Sophie and into a wall.

This is it, this is how I'm going to die. Killed by psychic mutant blondes. I always knew blondes would kill me.

There was an incoming phone call to Cyclops.

"Summers."

The tone was terse and tense. This had better be important.

Pierce's tone was just as terse. Because it WAS important.

"Summers, this is Agent Pierce, we have a crisis on our hands. Bellingham, Washington, we're getting reports in of mutants in the city going on a rampage, powers out of control--and the Purifers are moving in and picking them off. They were already there. Stryker knew this was going to happen--which means he's caused it somehow."

"Acknowledged."

That was all Scott said before hanging up.

He needed to update Xavier.

Stryker finally made his move, and if the X-Men didn't do something quick... he didn't even want to think about it.

He had been reading when it happened. It hit him quite suddenly and violently, like an explosion inside his mind.

The book was dropped carelessly to the floor as the good doctor held his head and screamed.

It was but a few moments, but it felt like it took forever for the pain to pass.

"What... what was that?"

Even with the power dampeners in place, he could still feel it.

"Guards! Guards!" he shouted as the pain started to become unbearable.

"Keep it quiet, Mentallo!"

"GUARDS!!"

God damn that hurt! What the hell was going on?

His powers were still gone. Suppressed by the drugs the X-Men shoved into his system.

But today, there was something niggling at the back of his mind. Something that was pushing and prodding at a bunch of neurons that haven't been used in some time. It had started to give him a headache, but whatever it was, it passed soon enough.

He shook it off easily, and wondered if he just imagined that, or if there was something... something else happening.

Bob's head almost feels like it's exploding for a brief moment... and then it is gone.

"What... in heaven's name was that?"
