On to Madripoor

Apr 06, 2008 17:18

Nick sent out the orders. Meet on the flight deck at 0400.

The people who received the orders were Stack, Black, Discord and Logan.

He would be going with Black, Stack and Discord. Logan was his backup and his secret weapon.

He knew Viper was involved and there wasn't anyone better than Logan to bring along.

discord, "contingency", wolverine, machine man, nick fury, scorpion carmilla black, viper

Four o'clock, in Carmilla's mind was way, way too early to be up and doing much of anything. Regardless, she showed up in uniform wishing she wasn't immune to the effects of caffeine. Because she could've used a cup or ten of coffee.

"Am I late?" she yawned, she had spent almost all of last night before the orders had come in showing idiots that a girl could kick just as much ass (if not more) at Halo than a guy.

Schooling morons was hard work.

Eris followed her into the room, still glaring daggers at her. He'd still been cleaning the apartment every day, and she kept messing it up. The discarded wrappers and other items she'd left from her binges last night during gaming had filled up two trash bags after he'd unearthed them all from under the couch and in its cushions.

"Reporting for duty, sir."

"Get yer asses on the transport," Nick grumbled around the cigar in his mouth. Two more and then they could take off.

"Ass is getting," Carmilla yawned. Oh, this was going to be a ray of sunshine. She could tell.

"Scorpion requesting permission to sleep through briefing on account of the fact you only called us like fifteen minutes ago... Sir."

Nick took a seat in the back of the transport next to Logan and as far away from the kids as possible. He wasn't in the mood for their crap.

He pulled two stogies out of a pocket, offered one to Logan and lit the other.

Logan was never one to pass up one of Fury's contraband cigars. "Interestin' bunch," he drawled as he struck a match on the bottom of his boot heel. Only wooden matches were good enough for these cigars. He could taste the difference. "Almost like I never left home."

"Don't get me started," Nick warned. "I'd kill someone t' have Tasha back full time."

The mention of Natasha brought back her odd behavior and his assurance to Ben Grimm that he would mention it to Nick. If the Black Widow was having behavioral problems, they'd need help bringing her and SHIELD was good at that. Hell, they'd brought him in a number of times under suspicious circumstances. If he didn't quite trust Fury to do what was right, he did trust him to do what was best for the common good. Fury didn't throw away a weapon when it could be rehabilitated.

"About Tash," he said slowly, "she's been actin' weird. Blacked out an' tried to shoot me in that assassin game goin' on. Laughed it off, but she's not all right."

Carmilla was now half-asleep so she'd at least be able to function some when they got to where they were going. Right now she was enjoying the silence that came with Stack being out cold.

...And she was using him as a foot rest. You had to take your moments when you could get them. She leaned back in her seat and pushed her hair in front of her eyes.

"Wake me when we get there," she yawned.

The plan was simple. Leave the transport on the outskirts of the city and walk the mile or so in. Logan would head to Low Town and get Viper's attention. Which shouldn't be hard given their history.

Nick and the rest would head into the sewers and make their way toward where Dawn was being kept. Thankfully Nick had a tracker implanted in her a long time ago.

"Let's go boys an' girls," Nick said as he opened the hatch of the transport.

Carmilla yawned and walked off the transport taking special care to really dig her heels into Stack on the floor.

She pulled up her mask, she was still tired but she could work, What's the plan, boss?

Eris had been all too happy to sit quietly and keep out of the squabble between his teammates. Now though, he was all business, checking and re-checking his gear.

"Sir, if the android can detect any sensor arrays before we come within range of them, I can disrupt them. If absolutely necessary, I can reverse the field on my dampeners to heighten my powers, and take out a large portion of their power grid." He paused. "Of course... there's a chance that anyone near me might also suffer irreparable brain damage."

"Anyone who has a long enough conversation with you will also suffer irreparable brain damage, spawn."

Yes, Aaron had woken up. With not enough booze in him.

Madripoor hadn't changed much since his last visit. Still smelled like a filthy bathroom. The obvious wealth of the few couldn't hide the poverty of the many, as much as the few wished it otherwise ( ... )

Oh it didn't take long for Viper to know her ex-husband was in Madripoor. She had eyes and ears everywhere on the tiny island.

With an escort of bodyguards, though they weren't really needed, she walked into the Princess Bar.

What was it he heard one of the kids say not that long ago? Oh yeah. Save the drama for yer mama. If only it were that easy.

If he hadn't been facing the entrance, he'd still know she'd walked in with her toy soldiers. She looked as psychotic as always. Bet she wasn't going to buy a round, either.

Viper smiled and slid onto a barstool next to Logan. The smile by no means was warm or friendly.

"Hello Logan."
