A monk. In Manhattan.

A twelve year old orphan mutant monk. In Manhattan. That may or may not be linked with the Young Avengers.

The hell?Julian was having a hard time trying to wrap his mind around this. And around the fact that he was apparently supposed to find the kid and bring him back to the school. At least, that's what he thought Miss ( Read more... )

"Sightseeing?" Cessily suggested, mostly joking.

"How exactly are we supposed to find him, anyways?" she wondered, scrunching her silver face in thought. "Maybe we should start at a buddhist temple? Ask if they've seen a kid coming in without an adult?"

He shook his head. "Nah. At least not yet.

"According to the article on him, he seems to hang around Soho and Greenwich. So we'll just look around here for a little while till we find him. It shouldn't be too hard. A monk would stand out, even in this city."

Then again, considering they were in uniform, they stood out themselves.

"I'm thinking civvies might have been a better thing to wear for this," Cessily said, trying to ignore the stares from other pedestrians.

"Maybe we'll get lucky and the kid will be drawn to shiny objects," she said, before feeling a tap on her shoulder.

"Miss! Pardon! But this is our first time in New York- in America, even, and you are first super-hero we have seen! Can we take a picture with you?"

Cessily just looked confused, and turned to Julian. Help?

At the moment? Playing baseball in Washington Square Park.

"I got it! I got it! I -"

A sudden, sharp wind blows through the trees, strong enough to divert the baseball flying through the air on its path, so that it lands in the palm of the glove held by the small boy with the shaved head, orange robes, and shiny new Doc Martins.

Uh - it COULD have been a coincidence!

There was a smirk. "You're silver, Foley is gold, Santo is made of rocks, Megan is straight out of a fairy tale, and Ashida looks like something a bad anime spit out with those gloves. Brian and I are the only ones who could wear civvies and blend in. Sides, we're all official looking this way and--"

...and someone wanted to take a picture with Cess. He didn't know whether to be amused of jealous. He settled for mostly amused with a hint of jealous.

"C'mon, Mercury, pose for the people! As a matter of fact, I'll even hold the camera."

And, not surprisingly, the camera was handed over him. Tourists, he couldn't help but smirk. But, then again, they were right outside Washington Square Park, which attracted its fair share of tourists.

He lined up for the shot, when a fleck of orange in the background caught his attention, and he zoomed in on it for a moment. And found exactly who they had been searching for.

"...ok, we'll have to make this quick. We have lives to save, and stuff. Ready?"

Politely, Cessily posed for a very quick snapshot with the tourists, who were just over the moon about meeting a real live superhero (wait til they got home and told their family!)

"Tourists," Cessily commented with a smile as she followed Julian towards Ang. If she had been able to blush, she would have been.

"Uh, hey there!" she called out to the boy, trying to sound as friendly as possible. "Oh, and Julian? Be nice to him." she added in a whisper.

Julian rolled his eyes. "Yeah, whatever. Relax. I can talk damn near anyone into doing anything. This kid shouldn't be much of a problem. You may have the silver skin, but I have the silver tongue." He had to waggle his eyebrows a bit at her.

It's day time. That meant street clothes. Their costumes were too recognizable to risk running around New York like that. She does have her duffle slung over a shoulder containing her bow, arrows and staves...just in case.

Today's mission? Find this Ang. It should have happened a while ago, but...Kate! It's been handled. Let it go!

Not being able to vent her spleen has her mildly grumpy, but she's working on it. Her temper has been pointed out to her often enough now that she realizes it's got to change. It's taking a little effort to push past her pride to do that. Be patient. This is Kate.

Thanks to nighttime excursions with Tommy, Catseye has some idea of where various parks are located. Even on two feet and wearing itchy tanglestuff, it doesn't take her long to catch up with Danny.

"Dannysnowtop lose kitten?"

One can hear the edge in her tone of voice, and can imagine how hard she's clenching her teeth together.

"Yes, Catseye. Danny lost his kitten."

In New York, its rather widely known that the city streets, and narrow alleys between buildings, had much more focused air currents than a wide open space like the park. Normally this was useless knowledge, but it was important at the moment as Julian was showing the Ang the finer points of making paper airplanes. They hadn't moved that far from the park by now, though they had strayed a few blocks, but they could still easily spot it from the entrance to the alley they were just inside of ( ... )

"Just Danny," says Aang, cheerfully tightening up a crease on an airplane. "And someone who bounced around a lot. He ran into Danny and it was funny."

Hn... bounced around a lot. Speedball?

Julian looked at "Good job on the wings. You got them just about even too. Now, when you throw it, don't force it; you have to be smooth with the release." Julian launched his first, and it was smooth sailing for a good fifty or so feet. Not bad, and he didn't even have to cheat with his powers.

"So what does Danny look like, anyway? Since we're supposed to be keeping an eye out for him."

Cessily had wanted to stay where they were, in case Ang's friends had come looking for him. But when Julian had his mind set on something, nothing could convince him to do otherwise.

So Mercury was on the lookout for anyone who seemed to be looking for anyone (likely in a panic), and listening to the conversation between the two of them.

Eli is unamused by the yanking, but he does land on his feet - inches from Julian's smug face.

"Please," he notes dryly, and he doesn't look back. "Again, how about everyone leave this alley except the two of us and we settle this little problem like a couple of men instead of a turf war."

There's a implication Julian doesn't have those kind of stones, but, let's give it a shot.

Julian was every bit the glory hound, but the leader part of him was able to override his ego. Especially where Cess was concerned, and he was not about to leave her outnumbered. Too big of a risk. The YA may have the numbers, for now, but together they could still outgun them. Besides, Miss Frost sent him to recruit the monk boy.

Priorities. God damned priorities.

"I don't care about your 'little' problem." Hey, Eli walked right into that one. His own fault. "You should've learned that the last time we crossed paths, kid." Remember that smug look he was wearing then? He's wearing it right now.

"I have more important concerns at the moment." With that, he turned his back to Eli and started to exit the alley.

Ang looks at Danny, and his expression is . . .

Not angry. Not scared. No, Danny's not getting off that easy.

Ang looks disappointed.

"You should not have hit him."
