Ah, now I'm smiling all over the place... Lovely, just lovely. And that line about the heart of a Gamgee... *happy sigh*

I figure they're all like that, in that family. Or almost all... :D

Sam's too good to have come out of nowhere. Cheers.

Lovely interaction between Frodo and Mari. I, too, felt a sense of relief when Frodo was finally able to voice his guilt. Wonderful how you worked in Tolkien's words, and that Sam, his family, and Frodo are all of great heart.

Don't you just love them? Because I do. It's a pleasure writing about good people who are doing their best. Thank you for sharing your thoughts.

awwwwwwwwwwww~!!!!!
"That the heart of a Gamgee is the best part of you. In all my ramblings, I have never met with any hobbits who are truer in heart than you."
My gosh, the Marigold and Frodo exchange really... :ahem, tries to be coherent: was really touching and written so so well. Both had guilt and i'm glad each were there for each other as they confessed the emotional "trauma" behind everything in terms of the guilt they had because of their "carelessness"
I loved the comfort for Sam...using the fever rag, feeding willow bark.
Also loved Frodo bringing a tray to Marigold and her poignant response to the consideration of Frodo.

My heart knew better. I should've listened to my heart."

Frodo nodded. His throat felt very tight. "We both should have."
"It seems we both have been guilty of not using our heads as we ought. Let's make a pact right now to do better."

awww~! Love this dialogue. SO carefully thought out...

True, Sam was hurt-far worse than Frodo in good conscience could stomach. But he was clean and warmly wrapped ( ... )

What a gorgeous comment. Thank you so much, Periantari. I'd been wanting to write this scene for a long time. I feel warm and happy knowing that other people like it, too. Happy Thanksgiving! *hugs*

Awwwwwww....

P.S. I loved this little note especially:

All too soon the Gaffer had finished his task. With a nod at Frodo, he took the seat closest to Sam's pillow and began sponging Sam's brow in Frodo's place. When Marigold returned, Frodo excused himself. No one actually shooed him from the room, but Frodo had the definite feeling that the Gamgees, at least the Gaffer, would be more comfortable if he were elsewhere. Much as he longed for something constructive to do, Sam's nearest relations needed the occupation more. Reluctantly, he let them be and retired to the study to catch up on the day's correspondence.

He's so thoughtful, considering what Sam's family will be feeling and what they might need, all based on Frodo's own empathetic feelings, but putting his mind to it. I love that.

I love sensitive men (hobbits). Hey, it's fantasy, right? I can dream. :D
