Long ago I posted a prompt requesting a "Steve Rogers annoying the other Avengers with Depression era habits".
I had a grandparent who grew up in a farming family. They ate wild game (as no one could afford to buy meat, plus no grocery stores nearby.) Grandma had a garden, and canned everything. She and her sisters would wash foil and plastic baggies for re-use. I've heard of someone else whose Gpa would dry paper towels for re-use. (I don't remember Gma using paper towels, she only used cloth towels and simply bleached them.) She and my aunts would also 'save' the water from the dish-washing for re-use.
Steve hoarding tons of canned goods sounds just like something one of them might do. Steve probably wouldn't see it as hoarding, he would see it as saving for a 'rainy day'. Plus I'd bet he'd share his cans.
I think I read a fanfic based on that prompt. Steve went to a warehouse store and bought a ton of food. I think he ended up donating the food to a homeless shelter after talking with one of the Avengers.
