Adrian Mole, now in his mid-40s, is preparing himself for the royal wedding bank holiday as his parents plan on going to Switzerland to avoid the affair altogether, and he contemplates on going for a sewer trip with other prostate cancer survivors, and writing a play about the wedding in which his daughter would play the leading role of Kate.
My rating: 8/10.
My Review: It is extremely difficult to, in only a few short paragraphs, pick up a beloved character after a decade, one whom readers had followed since teenagehood into late adulthood, and celebrate every aspect of his life they love the most. In an exceptionally short piece, Townsend manages to hit on everything that I, personally, loved the most about Adrian and his world - his nutty parents with their bizarre relationship, his persevering, tragi-comical pretentiousness and dry wit, a list, and yet another disastrous writing endeavour. Definitely just enough to remind an Adrian Mole lover who's been absent from Adrian's life for some time, why she followed him faithfully throughout his entire life.
