It's an informal survey I know. But be aware that bad computer speakers can easily down convert this into the old-fogey range, making this 'tone' audible to anyone.

I was beginning to suspect that very thing...

Unofficially, a co-worker who has a daughter my age can't hear it, but a 32-year co-worker can. But at least that's one for the 'can't hear it' camp.

The laptop I'm on has crappy speakers. I heard the tone but it was very faint even when I turned the volume up.

Accidentally posted "mp3 was broken". Silly me, my speakers were off. I can hear it just fine, and it's kind of annoying.

You can change poll answers just by retaking the poll.

I'd like to hear it on not-laptop-speakers etc.

Oh, indeed I can. I never realized that option before. Thanks.

OK, having gone to the link at fork.com (which isn't what I heard before), I can hear through 15,000Hz... after that, it depends on having the volume way up until (at around 17,000Hz) it's completely inaudible. The one that's actually labelled Mosquito, though, is audible, if not very loud.

I think that the mp3 is a Very Bad approximation of it.

(Go to fork.com, click on "ringtones" at the top, click on "mosquito tones" and its subsequent children in the tree a few times until a range of frequencies is presented; then you can preview the tones at different frequencies.)

I prefer to think of the sun going around me.

It sounded (annoyingly) like my ears ringing in a slightly-too-regular-to-be-tinnitis pattern, if that makes any sense. Better speakers may have helped, or I may be an old fogey. Whatevs, yo.
