I'm back home from the interview circuit and it was not in vain.  I received an acceptance to the fully-funded Neurobiology program at University of Chicago.  Still waiting to hear from a couple of other places before I make my final decision.  Regardless of what happens, I will definitely be attending grad school this Fall.

Here I am, my last night in Chicago.  I absolutely love it out here.  What a fantastic city, and so many things to do.  Imagine the best of downtown L.A., San Francisco and New York all in one city - only super clean and much friendlier.  Even the weather wasn't as cold as I thought it was going to be.  I had been here before and liked the vibe, so ( Read more... )

Looks like my grad apps weren't all in vain this time.  Not only do I have an interview for the NIH-Karolinska fellowship in neuroscience, now I have an interview invite from the neurobiology department at University of Chicago.  I also received a conditional acceptance from Bournemouth University's forensic anthropology program, but it doesn't ( Read more... )

The semester from Hell came to an end yesterday.  I turned in my last paper and sent out the two remaining packets for my graduate applications.  Now, the McNair project, the GREs, graduate applications and finals are over.  Today, I celebrated by doing ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.  Just lounged around, read some humor books (I highly recommend the Self- ( Read more... )

There's something sinister about me being trusted with a 7 million dollar piece of equipment that has a magnetic field roughly 60,000 times stronger than our planet's.  I won't tell if you won't ...

 
Just recently, I heard someone make a very strange comment about the nature of education.  In so many words, they said you go to school to become “smart”.  But smart in relation to what?  For example, if someone takes courses in physics, but you gave them an advanced essay test in history, they would fail it.  Does that mean they are less ( Read more... )
