I've used "rate limiting step" before. I used to like Newton's First Law ("an object at rest remains at rest"), but "Activation Energy" is a perfect descriptor for my entire life.

Mostly, what this goes to show is that people are so scared of science that they avoid it all together. It takes someone who is good with both sides of their brain to use scientific concepts as metaphors for life.

Speaking of chemisty, I was wondering if you know if most bug sprays attack neurologically. The way the insect almost immediately starts bumbling about and seems to lose more and more function makes me think it might work thataway, but I'm not a sciencegurl.

I have a similar use for action potential, having done a bit of neuropsych study in undergrad.

There have to be a billion real-life uses for quantum tunneling. I'll keep my eye out for them.

People keep trying to have real life uses for the uncertainty principle but mostly they end up using it wrong.
