Random Sims Blather : To Legacy or not to Legacy

Jan 23, 2009 08:59

I'm seriously considering jumping on the legacy bandwagon again.  I've been watching the Founder Challenge over at legacy_writers and think it's a good opportunity to do another legacy ( Read more... )

It's sad how little I've explored it, too.

Hell, there are base game LTWs that I routinely ignore (like the romance and popularity ones--I don't care how many people you want to bone, get a job, lazy horndog).

I usually try to get my sims LTWs and there's none I've ignored outright but a few I find very difficult.
One right now is in my prosperity challenge hood. One of my sims wants to raise 20 puppys or kittens.
I'm here to say it ain't happenin'. Why? Because I just can't get rid of the pets fast enough and I don't want to just give them back to the adoption pool. THAT'S NOT THE KIND OF ANIMAL OWNER I AM!
I absolutely hate the 50 dream dates. Drives me nuts trying to do that one. :P

I agree with pixelatedtwits and think you should do another uglacy. Either that or do an I'm surrounded by idiots legacy. I know I'm reading one of those that is just fantastic! Everybody's always on the verge of aspiration failure, the kids all grow up badly and the true evil that is the 1-2 mean points sims really comes to the fore. It could drive you crazy to play but fail is simply phenomenal. I bet you could do wonders with an ISBI challenge.

So I'm not the only one who can't give away sim pets? (ok, I do it sometimes if I want to see the adoption pool, but I don't let the sim get attached at all to the kittens/puppies)

ISBI (really, I think IBS when I see that) would be fun. Maybe for for a generation or two (but not in a row, just a random generation here and there). I'm keeping that in mind. Thanks.

I think it's a good idea to do a legacy as a kind of break from storytelling. As for challenge suggestions...I dunno, a regular legacy is enough for me. I like to see how many fish one Sim can pull out of a pond, especially since ponds don't have any tributaries in the Sims. Must be a magical restocking fairy. I also love breeding my Sims, especially those with recessive genetics. It's fun to see how much variety can come from one family, especially after a couple generations when the recessives abound.

Breeding is fun. I think I'll add the uglification challenge to my legacy. I really enjoy seeing what kind of jacked up facial features I can collect.

Cool! Some of the most interesting and fun personalities can come from an uglification family. Definitely try to add alien genetics to the family again...I still remember Tizzy Ishkabibble's antics.

Oh, once I have a male heir I'll be all about getting some alien into the mix. I'm also going to use my PT replacements (pixel_and_beans has some nice face variety).

Tizzy Ishkabibble is my desktop wallpaper on my work computer.

You could always do a variation of Laridian's round robin challenge to keep things a bit more interesting money-wise. Having each new generation start with the base 20 might keep the "but my legacy already has to much cash!" blues away. I usually get to that point around the time my second or third generation becomes an adult and the chance cards pop up a few times.

You may also want to check out the handicaps on the legacy challenge website and set a few of those to make it more interesting. A few of my favorites are the pure entrepreneur, matriarchy/patriarchy, and aspire to do it the hard way.

I'm starting it as a poverty challenge so that should keep the money issue at bay for a little while.

I'm also adding my own little twists to keep it harder (like trying to maintain the family last name and limiting the number of potential heirs and such).

I think it's time to download the founder and get this mess set up.

My legacy (thus obviously not by official rules) moves lots every generation, which keeps the money issue down. I've also played around a little with 'themeing' different generations. Gen 3 lived in a barn conversion and were my first to try gardening. Then when the heir, Jens, moved out on his own I decided that his farming background would influence him to try to make it without him or his wife working at all. So they can only earn money through selling things in their home business - which is tricky with three kids (damn twins!).

That sounds a lot like the Family Farm Challenge (I think I have a tag for it in my memories). Basica premise is the only way to earn a living is via the earth. So no jobs for anyone and if you have to buy something from the catalog you have to buy two (and stash the second in the inventory) since you live SO far away it costs a lot to ship it to you.

I'm thinking about a variation on that after I get through the Poverty section. But I do want to try and get as many LTWs as possible, so I might have to make a few amendments.

Oh, I found a link earlier today to here. I don't know if you've seen it, but it has 60 mini challenges you may want to combine into your legacy. I'm thinking of doing that.

I'm sure it will be interesting and fun. Good luck! =]

Cool, thanks.

I have the first post from the Allsorts Legacy up now. Starting with a poverty challenge kept it VERY interesting (it still is even with the two kids as children--you should see The Shanty they have to live in).
