Well then. If the wife is going to be difficult... Feanor walks to the wardrobe and starts to take a shirt and braes out.

"If you had told me what had come to pass, I wouldn't have looked like such a fool in front of the children, woman."

His tone is steely. He is not happy either.

She turns, too sharply. "And you think I wished to think about it? I have mourned all these things once, Feanaro. I have no will nor desire to do so again. I did not believe it would come up, or I hoped it would not."

Get out, she almost tells him, I don't want you here, not right now. But she does, of course, and that's the problem. "If you looked like a fool it was your own doing," she says, "Because, as ever, you spoke without knowing, without understanding. You knew your decision when you walked into that room, and do not tell me otherwise."

"That thing feeds on our grandson. A dead thing animated by dark powers. And you would have me standby and do nothing?"

Oh, he's angry too, he is. And he is packing clothes, make no mistake.

She notices that, and it stings, make no mistake. "I would not have you standby and do nothing. Do you not see how happy he is? Give him a chance at happiness. I saw no lie in that woman's eyes. Speaking of her, he comes alight. Would you steal that joy from him when he has just had a chance to taste it?"
