Hey yasaman! I sent another zip, all covers this time(well, except for the Prince song. He wrote it, but didn't record and release it.) Hope you enjoy!
Yay covers! My favorites from this batch are the covers of "I Turn My Camera On", "Boys Don't Cry," "Wild Horses", and "Umbrella." I liked the others too, just not as familiar with the originals. Also, it was great hearing the Prince version of "Nothing Compares 2 U" after being so used to Sinead O'Connor's.
I really loved Rock Kills Kid's version of the Spoon song; it kept just enough of the original, while making it more thoughtful and interesting. The original is great for strutting down the street, but this cover is for driving through the city at night and thinking. Also, I really like the singing and delivery in the Oleander version of "Boys Don't Cry." And because I have a slightly shameful love of the original "Umbrella," I love all of the stripped down, indie-sensibility versions too.
That's totally OK...I probably won't be able to download anything until late Friday anyway :) I did GET the e-mail link, though, and I'll let you know what I think as soon as I can.
Oh and re: Sam Roberts, I found two of his albums in our back library (I work at a radio station) so I'm going to have to check them out if I have any down time tomorrow. And if you're interested...you can listen to an interview and session he did in 06 for my station. This is the link to the full concert he did. Too bad it was all before I started working there!
OK, so I actually DID manage to download the songs before late Friday (as evident by this post) so I'm going to comment on them now! We'll start with the covers:
Fake Plastic Trees - Matty Nay and Howie "I like throwing phones at people" Day: I'm pretty sure I have this somewhere on my computer...but that doesn't make me love it any less. This is one of my favorite Radiohead songs covered by one of my very favorite people in the world (oh, and Howie Day lol)
Don't Look Back In Anger - M5/Phan Plan: I had heard about this, but I don't think I ever managed to track down an MP3 of it! This is an awesome cover...LOVE Phantom Planet, and listening to this reminds me of how much I absolutely adore Adam's voice.
Walking With a Ghost - The White Stripes: I think I've heard this before...and even though I think I prefer the original version...I do like the White Stripes's take on it. And yea, I have this like weird kinda crush on Jack White, but only occasionally...and not when he looks like a creepy pedo cowboy :D

I CANNOT TELL YOU HOW MUCH I LOVE YOU FOR INCLUDING GILBERT O'SULLIVAN. I love cheesy 70's crap and I was missing this song, which amazes me. It's genius.
I couldn't take Russell Crowe seriously, I'm sorry. And I have an abiding hatred for Neil Young. But everything else was super fabulous and sparkly!!!
The "Keep Your Jesus Off My Penis" song is fucking amazing. I want to marry that guy immediately. Fuck yeah!
You seem to be into soundtrack music, which is cool, and you're introducing me to a world that is quite new to me, so thank you! I continue to enjoy the Bear McCreary, especially Refugees Return. The Hans Zimmer was very much better for me this time. Eptesicus gave me chills. (Personally, I enjoy the buildup early on even more than the rest, though!) I love Clair de Lune, and this is quite a beautiful version of it. It's even distinctive: it's bringing back the scene in Atonement to me, even though I've heard this piece many many times and only seen the movie once. The piece from The Fountain is so pretty it makes me want to cry

Just so you know, I'm attempting to upload right now. I set it up on MediaFire last night and forgot that there's a 100MB limit. -_- So that failed and now it's trying on MegaUpload, but my connection isn't the greatest, so it might take awhile.

(P.S. Totally agree about Jack White. Sometimes hot and sometimes skeevy.)
Not sure why the Powderfinger song didn't work (perhaps the zip tried to eat it?) but I'll reupload it.
Wasn't there another song, or did I forget to include it?

You love Eptesicus for the same reason I do, then. Based on that, I can find a few more songs to send. By a few, I mean many. ;)
I love piano music. If I were to learn an instrument, it would be that, so that's cool to hear. I'll keep that in mind for the next round of songs.
Haha, some of their songs are indeed very slow, but the more energetic ones are my favorite, so I'm glad you liked that one.
No problem! I'm glad you like what I've sent so far (it's very encouraging)! I'll be putting together another zip soon. :)
