Tiggy's new ride.

Jul 24, 2008 23:00

Ever since me and Tiggy-Minion got back from our North America/FC trip at the start of the year, we've been working to shed our excess fat. During the 7 weeks of eating, sleeping, lounging and holidaying around, my weight crept close to 100kg, while Tiggy-Minion ballooned out to 92kg (and we definitely felt the excess waistline during FC when we ( Read more... )

Very nice tiggy! If you ever come out to CO in the summer, I'll take ya biking on some amazing road trails in the mountains.

Right now I'm such a biking-noob, anything steeper than a gentle slope will completely defeat me. Still playing around with the gears for the past 2 days, will probabally take me a while to figure it all out. That and I still lack stamina, so it's going to be start-stop-start-stop for a while yet.

Hopefully though, by the end of the year I'll look less like a poser and more like someone who knows what he's doing. And then, I might take on those mountains of yours!

Everything Perro said on this list is a must have. It's not horribly expensive, but will make your biking experience all that much better.

Better bike shorts with a proper chamois/padding is a must I find, and I've been browsing online for those.

I don't know how the shoes/pedals thing will work for a beginner like me, right now when I brake (or on the verge of falling off, which I've avoided thus far), I still tend to put my feet down onto the road. And I've always thought those shoes which clip onto the pedals mean I won't be able to unclip them in a hurry... or am I wrong in that regard?

We've actually got a toolpack of sorts when we got our bikes, so there's spare tubes, a changer tool, a multi-hex-screwdriver-thing-kit, a portable pump, and a bigger pump which I've kept in the car. I think there's also a bottle of lube and cleaner as well. I also keep the bike lock in the car as well (which reminds me, I need to let the insurance people know about these bikes so they'd be covered).

Hydropack... I've got a rather large Camelback pack from my airsofting days, so I'll see how that works out when I venture out of the local park and onto the open roads.

clipless pedals are def a must have. makes cycling so much more efficient. tools are essential since you're bound to have a flat sooner or later. dont want to have to walk back. have fun and keep it up :)

As I've noted above (in my reply to Perro), regarding pedals and shoes that clips on (or something)...

Otherwise, I'm definately having a lot of fun with it so far. That, and I get an excuse to wear spandex/gear in public! And maybe an excuse to get even more gear.

Nice.

Since I have spent the last 2 years sitting on my duff, I've ballooned to 230 lbs :( (I refuse to use kg even here in Canada). Good to hear the G Ramsay book works, I was looking at that book cause I need new recipes. I was going to teach the wuff tennis this summer, but it didn't work out. I'd like to be around 200 by this time next year, so if I can drop 2 lbs a month...
If I lose a few pounds, I'll get cute jeans--since what you get doesn't mean much for this fellah.
cheers!

Heya! How's the Otty and Wuff doing these days?

Yeah, when we came back from North America, we felt that something must be done about the excess baggage. So we just got our asses moving!

I always loved to tinker around with food, so yeah, been watching a lot of Ramsey's shows... well The F Word being one, Hell's Kitchen is another. There's quite a few neat ideas and whatnot even in a "reality game show" like Hell's Kitchen actually.

So when are you guys coming down here and visit? ;)
