"Gay marriage is now legal in Illinois," Luke says with a wide smile.

Shit, Reid thinks.

"You said we'd get married when it became legal in Illinois."

Reid looks up thoughtfully. "Did I? I think I meant once it's legal in the country--the entire country so that's it, you know, fair for everyone. And I know how you want everyone to be treated equally so . . . "

Luke sighs.

Reid pats Luke's shoulders. "Patience, young Snyder, patience. One day it will happen."

Luke nods and walks off.

Sooner than later, Reid thinks, smiling as he fingers the silver ring in his coat pocket that he bought as soon as he heard the news about the senate bill. We've waited long enough.
