They hate us for our freedom. No, not THAT kind of freedom.

Thanks to the Rev. for this link:

U.S. to Canada: Your foolish love of so-called ‘freedom’ and ‘privacy’ is interfering with our ability to detain swarthy foreigners without trial. In particular, America is angry with the Canadians' "restrictive privacy legislation" and the fact that Canada "places too much emphasis on civil liberties ( Read more... )

All the more reason to emigrate there.

Or, just make sure this current administration is swiftly defeated.

One of those two.

What I like is that the US is now removing its military presence from Saudi Arabia, in a move designed to lessen anti-US sentiment over there.

For those of you keeping score, getting the US out of Saudi Arabia was one of the stated goals of Al Qaeda. Finally, a blow struck in the War Against Terror ... a blow from the opposing side, to be sure...

Yep. In fact, the terror war scorecard looks like this so far:

- Destroy WTC, attack Pentagon, kill thousands of Americans: check. 1-0 terrorists.

- Have US invade and occupy Afghanistan, creating more anti-US sentiment and doing nothing to stop bin-Laden: check. 2-0 terrorists.

- Cause US to react hysterically to attacks, curbing civil rights in world's freest country: check. 3-0 terrorists.

- Provide justification for US to attack Iraq, which has nothing to do with bin-Laden, leading to destruction of secular dictatorship hated by Islamic fundamentalists: check. 4-0 terrorists.

- Provoke US withdrawal from Saudi Arabia, fulfilling primary goal of still-uncaptured Osama bin-Laden: check. 5-0 terrorists.

When are we gonna start WINNING this war, exactly?

The number of terrorist attacks dropped to 199 in 2002 from 355 the previous year. Still, Mr. Powell noted, assaults occurred in every region of the world, claiming 725 lives. Terrorist bombings in Bali last fall killed about 200 people from two dozen countries, including Canada.

I don't know about you, but to me those stats are, um, underwhelming. Based on numbers, SARS is a bigger threat than terrorism right now.

Hey, look, commie traitor terror bastard. Sure, it may LOOK like AIDS, flu, cancer, cigarettes, alcohol, handgun violence, car crashes, starvation, heart disease, tornados, and the police are all more realistic threats to people's lives than terrorism. But that doesn't mean we shouldn't repeal the bulk of our civil rights so we can prevent that statistically insignificant amount of death.

i'd be worried that the whole great power/great responsibility/great abuses thing would come into play fairly quickly.
