ARTICLE: Cooper Anderson Comes Clean

Mar 28, 2012 05:47

If you were Cooper Anderson, you could say your life was like a Disney movie. A charmed life from day one. A practical joke gone wrong that turned out to be one of the best things to ever happen to him. Good fun between lacrosse teammates led Anderson to being signed up for the drama club. Unable to back away from the challenge, Anderson embraced the club, and slowly discovered that he was actually good at it. Their stage production of The Wizard of Oz was lacking, but Anderson's shine was apparent, even when he was 11 years old. He stole the stage as the Cowardly Lion. Deciding that he couldn't give it up, even if everyone kept making fun of him, Anderson continued to join in on every play, even going as far as joining the community theater.

As he got older, he decided there was nothing he wanted more than to go to Los Angeles. He wanted to break out and be a star. At sixteen, Anderson stormed the city of angels with his mother. It was a slow start. A detergent commercial, a line of Coca Cola commercials, and then it happened. A six episode deal with the popular Kangaroo Court, the preteen law drama that lasted six seasons. Anderson's popularity grew and he became a regular for the last two seasons, quickly becoming one of the fan favorites.

From there, life only grew. He starred in two horror films, which got him over his fear of blood and guts. After being a part of the behind the scenes, Anderson was never queasy again at the sight of fake blood. Real blood, that's another story. Anderson says he still can't look at his own blood without wanting to pass out. The poor babe! We understand that feeling.

After the horror films, Anderson went back to school, studying in London at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. After school, Anderson returned to his home in Ohio for six months before returning to Los Angeles, where he began to be considered for more adult roles. Still able to pass as a student, he was often cast as the eldest child in film and television, which suited him just fine, as that was a role he knew personally.

At 22, Anderson joined the cast of Landslide, a musical comedy about life in college. He lasted for three seasons, before being offered a lead role in a film about a struggling gay teenager. The theme hit close to home. At home, Anderson's brother was facing the same fate. "My brother has always been my biggest inspiration," Anderson confided. "He's the strongest and bravest person I've ever met. I wasn't able to be with him in his darkest hour, and I'll always regret that, but I know he's in a better place now, where that won't happen again."

Aww, we love brotherly love.

The film was finished and spent the last two years in the festival circuit. It was finally purchased and the world premiere is a month away!

Anderson is thrilled.

"It's an important message. It needs to be addressed, and fast. It needs to stop. People need to realize that we're all normal. No one deserves to be singled out."

That's right, Pop Love. Anderson said 'we,' and that wasn't a typo.

"I've been fighting my agent over this for the last two years, and I'm finally coming out. I'm very much bisexual." Will this hurt his career? Anderson doesn't know, and honestly, he doesn't care. "I'm still the same person I was before. Just better because I'm finally being honest."

His official announcement will be online next week on the 'It Gets Better' website in their latest video. Don't worry, Coop! Pop Love is behind you all the way.
