Seeing things from Mrs. Patmore's POV is quite refreshing. There isn't a lot of her in fanfics out there.
I really loved the antagonistical interaction between her and Elsie (the store room key bit was priceless!), specially because it really seems Beryl understands her and respects her for what she's doing.

No, what she saw in Mrs Hughes was a stern exterior built up over years to protect a true bleeding heart, probably too bleeding for her own good most of the time,

This seriously broke my heart.

I suppose it's just that I see Elsie as a rather compasionate woman with a strong practical streak. I can imagine that in order to prove effective she would have to appear herder than she really was though.
Glad you enjoyed Mrs P. I rather enjoyed the different angle too.
thanks for reviewing

Yes, I agree on Elsie. It is obvious she's a compassionate woman (see her scenes with Beryl or Anna lately), but you have to put on a strong appearance if you wanna get some respect from the people you're giving orders to.

I didn't know Mrs Patmore's first name was Beryl, but what a great name!

I'm really enjoying this story so far. It's particularly interesting to see things from Mrs Patmore's point of view, as others have mentioned. It was good of her to get everyone out of the way before Mrs Hughes and Mr Carson had their spat, and to not listen in herself, though I imagine it might have been tempting to do so.
