He races his hands up and down her arms, infusing warmth that they both desperately need, want. Kate leans into him and her body trembles against his. He knows she's replaying the events of only a few hours ago, because it's still burning in his mind as well. Her hand ghosts around the white bandage on his shoulder with the spot of crimson staining it.Awwwwwww! They quickly draw into the darkness of an alleyway, pressing their backs awkwardly into a brick wall. His heart beats wildly as the sirens appear closer and closer. One hand grips the handle of his gun. The other holds tightly to Kate.
Awwwwwwwww. Poor Jack, poor Kate, poor everyone! This makes my heart squee but also carries this tremendous sense of foreboding with it. I know it won't last. They know it won't last. But they keep trying for as long as they can. Beautiful!
He thinks he spots Ben once.
But then the man turns around and it's just some guy in a bad toupee. Their eyes met and Jack turns away, focusing on the back of Kate's head.
He feels like he's losing all touch with reality. And the thing is, he's not even surprised.
You were right.That's terrifying and also so meaningful when it comes to Jack's state of mind: it seems that with or without Aaron he was doomed to loose his mind--the island won't let him survive away from it. That's such a ( ... )

I'm so glad you liked this. This was my first Lost HoHoHo Secret Santa, and the first time I've written Jack and Kate since about Season 3, so I had more than enough worry going around for this one. So thank you for this awesome response. And because I thought that an epic review, deserves a lengthy response, here ya go:
And then the you okay?/I am now exchange kind of broke me, because I am a sucker for throwbacks to canon in fic and this has got to be one of my favorites.
I am such a sucker for those too, which is why this fic is pretty littered with them.
-universal thing to say in the second person that it's almost a cliche, but it's the kind of cliche that either of them would use.
Before I read what you wrote about that part, I never even thought about it being a cliche. I just thought it was a great way to end that section. But I like the way you explain it much better.
