Now that Jiang Hu finally subbed the first episode, I can finally watch it. (watching the first ten minutes streamed doesn't count)

I have watched 10 episodes so far (a bit slow going due to too much assignments to do, BOO!). I am really enjoying it actually. The only one I have watched was the 80s version, when I was 3 - so I hardly remember it, except that Barbara Yung was the first actress I was in love with! (I didn't know she was already dead when I watched it though) I used to get my grandma to buy me all the LOCH stickers that were sold all over the place in China at the time. I would stick everyone else's stickers up all over the place, but would preserve the Huang Rong stickers in a safe place (never stuck them on anything) because they were more previous :P So I figured nobody could possibly replace her as Huang Rong. And I haven't really wanted to watch the other remakes because of the Huang Rong problem.

I only really wanted to watch this version because of Ariel Lin - she has become my new obsession! I was willing to risk her being Huang Rong, and I must say, I am quite impressed with her portrayal. She is really cute! :)

I have only seen the first episode so I can't comment on Ariel's performance yet. I'm sure she'll be good, she's my favorite Taiwanese actress. But she does have big shoes to fill. I've watched the 80s version with Barbara Yung so many times that I didn't think anyone would ever be as good as her. I actually watched the 90s version with Athena Chu first but Athena didn't even make an impression on me. Then I watched the 2003 version with Zhou Xun as Huang Rong and loved her performance. Zhou Xun is now one of my favorite all time actresses, so least to say I hope that Ariel will at least be on par with Zhou Xhun and Barbara Yung.

I do think Ariel has some pretty great costumes though, yellow looks very good on her.
