I felt the SAME WAY right after reading CC, so I can only imagine how intense the feels must be after seeing the play. I was really worried for awhile; all my WIPs stalled because CC!Draco was living in my head, fucking up my characterizations.

The good news is that as time passed, CC!Draco receded into the background for me as just one possibility amongst many. I know it feels like canon to you right now because you literally just saw it, you enjoyed it, it was well done, etc. But hopefully as time passes, you can get some distance and freedom and find a way to allow CC its space while retaining your GOD GIVEN RIGHT to write Harry/Draco the way you see fit.

OUCH! It was your OTP, wasn't it? Awww, I hope it doesn't do the same for me, I'm SO in love with the idea of middle-aged Draco/Harry, so much more than teenagers Draco/Harry. PLS, LET ME SHIP THEM WITH GREY HAIR.

But I see your point and I'm actually very happy that the marriage with Ginny works and I'm so curious to see more of her and gave her the space she deserves.

The only scenario for me would be friendly divorce? That would be breaking them up but ... in a nice happy way? IDK. Or you could ship Hinny?

IDK about my OTP, because I can ship Draco in particular with a bunch of others - but one of my favourites and definitely the one where I've spent the most times.

Oh yes! I'm really happy to LIKE Ginny so much and like their relationship. And hey, they're still only forty in CC - there's still lots of time for you to get them a friendly divorce as their hair greys.

Hinny's not gonna work for me as a thing I passionately SHIP as opposed to enjoy in canon, sadly! And I don't know if I want to break them up... but yeah, if I do write CC-compliant it'll be the friendly divorce route for sure.

Reading you post made me realise that I definitely don't care as much about Rowling/Thorne canon than about Harry/Draco, as fandom has created them. I've come to Harry Potter via fandom and not via canon (quite differently than LotR or MCU for me), so CC is just a source for me, to be salvaged for good stuff to jump off Harry/Draco. :)

Plus a million.

But CC isnt canon to me.

Draco's crush on Harry is part of my reading of him in the original 7, so it's just part of Draco's canonical characterization for me.

Well, there's nothing in the text of CC to stop you reading Draco as having a crush on Harry? Well, actually I think that reading is less tenable from the way they interact here but it's certainly not impossible.

That said, like I said in the post, from a lit-crit perspective changing the medium and introducing loads more creative voices (actors, co-writers, costumers, lighting techs, etc etc etc) means it can't be part of the original text i.e. canon.

Yeah, totally. At least that's how I see it too.

I'm sorry about your feels, love :(

There's a lot to be enjoyed there I think :D And it's nice to be able to embrace Hermione/Draco! Before I was always a bit, 'um, given RL racial fetishes I am actually a bit creeped out by bigot boy with Hermione. Like, can't you just hear it - "you know what they say about Mudblood pussy..."' but now he is all redeemed and non-bigoted in canon YAY I WILL TOTALLY WRITE THAT THREESOME.

Ohhh, this is super interesting to read! I'm loving reading everyone's takes/reactions to the play, as I've not really got any chance of seeing it (I'm in Australia, but maybe eventually it'll trek out here) and I'm holding out reading the script because...well....I sort of think reading a script just might not be as dynamic as seeing it haha. As I say, I live in hope (tiny, desperate hope) that I might see it ( ... )
