And yet...no subject lines. No easy drop down menu for user pics. Still the horrible colors (light blue and white, good lord!).

Oh yeah, and screwing around with the coding without telling anyone beforehand. I hate that. Suddenly something looks screwy and my first thought is, "they must be in the middle of a new release". It's usually when posting comments becomes rocket science... Thanks for nothing, LJ. :(

Hey there's a thing. Does this "old style" commenting page for minimalism have the subject lines?

Yes, it does have subject lines.

If you could give users of other styles an option to get back the old-look commenting system as well, that'd be really great. As others have said before me, re-desiging everything in order to use that option isn't a real solution.

I'm checking into whether it will be expanded to some/all of the other styles, or if it will be Minimalism only -- haven't heard back yet.

Thank you! I'm glad that we can now browse comment threads almost like we used to, but now the "expand" command is lagging terribly. If you could have someone look into that as well, I'm sure we'd all appreciate it.

What about this hideous white-and-blue color scheme on the comment pages? You've heard hundreds of complaints and suggestions from people about this issue yet it hasn't been addressed.

I will say I appreciate your fixing the icon selector. Now let's get the rest of these problems addressed.

The classic commenting system is much appreciated, but needs to be available for all journal types. It doesn't work for Basic users. As others have said, it would be ideal if it were available for all styles, not just Minimalism, but I think making it available to all users first is more important.

It also still breaks the page on any page with extremely long threads, such as this one. (You'll have to have Classic Comments for Minimalism set on your own journal to see the issue.) The page is truncated mid-thread, with no lower comments or footer displayed.

Finally, I'm getting no LJ header (and thus no access to menus, Friends Page link, etc) on this style. (Minimalism/Deep Ocean with "Show old style Entry page" marked Yes.) I'm not sure if that's intentional or not, but it's problematic, either way.

I switched one of my testing journals to a Basic account, and confirmed that the 'Show old style Entry page' option appears for Basic users, but doesn't seem to actually work right. It should work the same for all levels, yes. Bug ticket filed, thank you!

I think the behavior of long threads is still something being worked on.

I can't reproduce what you mean about the LJ header going missing with the style settings you selected -- I selected those and I still see the main LJ header, the navbar on my journal/flist, etc. Can you maybe do a screencap of what you're seeing?

I'm just talking about the classic comments page lacking the main LJ header, for what it's worth; I don't use the navbar.

This is what I see at the top of the page with Minimalism/Deep Ocean/Show old style Entry page set, and this is the very bottom.

Should I not be seeing this at the top and this at the bottom?

This happens for this account in Chrome and nookiepowered in Firefox, so it's not just the one journal or the one browser.

I'm looking into this one at the moment -- thanks for the screenshots. It does look like something isn't quite right there.

Edit: yep, confirmed that's a bug. Ticket filed. Thanks!

Any chance of fixing that nasty bug not allowing people to comment in Firefox on windows machines? :/ You acknowledge it on the main support page, and it's really annoying having to constantly switch to Chrome or style=mine every page I go to because this new commenting system is crap.

LiveJournal's new commenting form is causing several issues for some users. Some of the major issues are:
- Expanding threads or loading userpics causes the page to time out, or other performance problems in IE8 and Firefox 3.6 through 7.
- Some Firefox users cannot leave comments

Ability to comment PERIOD should be a pretty high priority you'd think!

Especially on a popular browser.

Do you have Greasemonkey and have you installed the "Disconnect" script? If so, disable/remove it and you probably will be able to comment with Firefox. There may be other scripts that also cause the problem, but that was the one that was blocking commenting for me.

Hey, thanks for this tip! I've been able to comment in Firefox, but not Chrome ever since Release 88 and couldn't figure out why. Disabling the script has allowed me to comment again! :D
