On how to be a courteous UCDavis cyclist

Simple rules, or guidelines if you like, on how to cycle on campus without looking like a freshman and/or pissing off your fellow cross-campus commuters:

1. Never--EVER--look anywhere but directly in front of you. Riding a bike is nothing like driving a car, and looking for people on either side of you, behind you, ahead of you in bike circles, etc ( Read more... )

Engineer types would invent expendable handlebars, so that when biking without a friend they will take up more space. The expandables would be great for parking space hogging as well. This is from Stan's briliiant mind. He says one must be creative to be a true bike road hog.

I really need to get pictures of some of the bikes on campus. One of my favs is made from an old frame, turned upside-down, with handlebars about 3' long. This other one looks laid back like those motorcycles that have absurdly long handlebars. Why yes, it IS boys that ride these bikes. Compensating much?

ROFL I freakin' love it!!! Pity my uni campus isn't really that big, and is really too hard to navigate a bike around, or I'd *so* be using these!!

Number 2 and 3 are definately my favs!

You could always apply this as a pedestrian. You might have to tweak them here or there, but they could work, you know, to optimize foot traffic flow. Or something.
