Date of Purim
Feb 13, 2010 21:13
Okay, this is a pretty barebones, specific, technical question:
On what Gregorian date did the Jewish holiday Purim fall in 1977? It's a character's date of birth.
~holidays
,
~religion: judaism

Do we know if that's the day on whose sundown it began or the day through which it continued?

It started on the night of the 3rd and ended at sundown on the 4th. The 4th was a Friday and Purim can never start on Friday night. If that occurs, it's pushed to Saturday night and Sunday.

Um, non-jew here. Why can't Purim start on a Friday?

y2jdingo is correct, and it would start on the 3rd, I believe.
Huh, I had a character named Seren Esther who was born on Sukkot. :)
