advice?

 Hello All,

I have a Le Petit Prince tattoo on my arm (very similar to one posted a month or two ago) that I got as a black outline, because that's kind of my style (I have 3 tattoos and no color thus far).  However, I find it a little too... minimalistic?  I don't know.  The point being, I want to get it filled in.

I'm just looking for some input in ( Read more... )

advice, the little prince

If I were you, I'd fill in the elephant in grey and since you don't want any color, maybe do the hat black with a brooch, band or accent of some kind to keep it from looking like a black blob. i like your elephant though! post pics when you do something to it.

ah, yes, i should have been more clear.

i am open to color for this one... i envision getting the bottom boa in brown, though if shades of black/grey would work better, i'd go for that too.

just looking for ideas! thanks!

I'd probably fill in both the elephant and the bottom boa in a mid-grey, I think. If you wanted to go colour though, then maybe elephant in grey, boa in hat-colour - and get both of them to be a similar darkness/intensity?

here is my suggestion which you may discard if you wish.

why not either use a paint program to colour in various combinations, or make photocopies of the artwork as it exists on your arm and play with some crayons/coloured pencils to work out some options?

make the drawings to scale so you can overlay them on your arm to see how the colours would appear.

that is what i have done in the past in order to work out an idea in multiple combinations as i try to figure out which one speaks to me.

narrow it down to a couple you may not be able to decide on and post them here for opinions if you are still stuck.

My friend actually has this same thing tattooed on her arm as a band (so the "hat" faces out and the elephant is on her inner arm. What she decided to do was to get the "hat" colored in (it's a greenish-brown color) and the snake colored in that same color and then she left the elephant a line drawing. Don't know if this helps, but it looks really nice.
