so, i've had this idea for quite some time, but i'm lost on where exactly to put it.

the quote And death i think is no parenthesis by cummings has been meaningful in my life, as the entire poem has been. essentially the end for me sums up that poem and i'm attached to the entire quote ( Read more... )

e.e. cummings, parentheses, fonts, placement

i love the idea of "(And death i think is no parenthesis)" on your forearm. i think that would be gorgeous, no matter what font.

I wouldn't advise having one bracket on you, and another on someone else, nor would I suggest using the quote with only one.

That said, I think you could fit it on your foot if you had it flowing along the side, as opposed to the top.

Or you could go somewhat esoteric and do something like:

(death)

That would fit on a wrist or foot.

I think you should stick to the original phrase, and not add any punctuation that isn't originally there.

yeah, and i can appreciate that.

sticking with the original or going completely in the other esoteric direction such as (death) seems best.

I'm planning on getting that line and the previous line "life's not a paragraph."

My plan is an ouroboros (the snake eating its own tail) overlaid/crossing with banners bearing the two quotes as a big old back piece.

cummings' use of punctuation is as essential to his poems as any of the words. altering that would be like removing a word from a sentence.
