Baron Wars

This past Saturday I attended Baron Wars up in Toledo. I originally wanted to camp, but between the weather not looking the best and not having the time to make tent poles I decided to day trip it. The plan was to go up early on Saturday morning for the rapier melee - but between the weather and not wanting to make everyone wake up too early I took a pass on that as well. Saturday morning, Jim and I had to pick up Edmund. When we got there we found Edmund down with a migrane. Trina still wants to go (she was going to go up later in the day) and we all decide that she and Theresa will ride with me and Jim. The trip was largely unremarkable.

The weather was incredible. It rained hard all day while the fighting was happening. The melees were good. I got to fight alongside His Majesty Alaric for a short time in one of the field battles. I think Malcolm got him, but I killed Malcolm. The unbelts practice was a lot of fun, as usual. In our progessive drills I got one person to yield. I was in the line of 4 that was taking shots, when the other line (which wasn't taking shots) came to us Baroness Kope tied up a lone polearm and I proceeded to hit him - alot. He finally yielded and walked off the field. I checked with him to make sure we were cool and everything was good. He said I did exactly what I should have done and that he shouldn't have put himself in that position. I didn't fight any pickups - during the Hadrian's Wall battle my elbow armor slipped and I got cracked in the elbow - again. My elbow is still a little sore and poofy. Not as bad as it has been, but it's not good either. I need to get through the next three months and than I can take some time and let it heal up.

After the fighting, Trina and I went and did some shopping. I was looking for the materials to make her pouch with and I wanted to see if Red Falcon was around. At Coronation I broke two welds on my Red Falcon basket hilt. The welds are guaranteed for life, so I wanted to see about having it fixed or replaced. At Red Falcon I was offered a new basket hilt (a different style than mine) or I could have mine fixed and shipped to me. I chose to have it fixed. The bars are going to get straightened out and the welds are going to get fixed. Hooray! Trina also found the material she would like her pouch to be made out of and she helped me pick the colors to use for the embroidery.

During court I hung around outside of the tent and talked and just relaxed. After court, Brice Coulquhoun told me that Her Majesty would like a word with me. Her Majesty Noelle asked me and Warder Sarah of the Erie Sea to be part of the Queen's Rapier Guard. It's a big honor, and I gladly accepted - even though I will be picked on for fencing. Trina thinks calling me Fifi le Swish is a great joke. She couldn't remember that Edmund calls me Francois le Swish when I fence. I think I prefer Cellach, but I'm kinda afraid that Fifi or Francois will stick as a nickname. I know they mean it in good humor and that they both are proud of me.

I also got to see lots of friends at Baron Wars, it was great to get to visit with them for awhile.

The trip back home was pretty uneventful. We stopped at an Arby's and got asked if we were in a play.

Sunday, Theresa and I headed back up to Don and Trina's place. I got a lot of work done on my lozengy cotehardie and Theresa finished knitting her hat. Tonight I'm heading back up to work on my cotehardie and to help Trina with Don's outfit for Crown Tourney. I hope to get most of the work done on my cotehardie. We'll see how it goes!
