So the mice have definitely made it to the living room, specifically the area where the boxes are all piled. WHAT A SHOCK. So somewhere in that pile I'll have at least one box with the corner chewed out. I only hope it's just like, one lonely bachelor mouse and not a pregnant mouse looking for a place to drop her next litter. Please god I do ( Read more... )

Your cats are kind of assholes.

It's really just pathetic at this point. I mean, before I said okay, my cats don't get up on the counters so that's why the mice are active there. But this? No excuses.

What kind of trap are you using? Try something like this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:2005_mousetrap_cage_1.jpg. Most importantly, use either freshly baked bread or chocolate as bait. (These two things really work best.) Position it somewhere that make the mouse feel safe, i.e. close to the boxes.

Once it's caught, deposit the mouse at least 1 km from your home next to your old landlord's home.

Thanks for the advice, but I hate to tell you, I use snap traps. I tried live trapping briefly and it didn't work- and anyway, I live in the middle of the city, if I release a mouse I'm just making it someone else's problem. I bait with cat food super-glued to the trigger, but I might try adding some peanut butter if I don't have any luck again tonight.

I found snap traps work best, too, baited with peanut butter. I have had problems a few times over the years, despite having dogs. They suck when it comes to being mousers, so I can only get so angry with them.

I saw evidence of mice in the kitchen but also found they'd made a nest in my closet where I'd stored some old clothes in a clothes basket. No food items were anywhere near this nest. So they can be found anywhere. Look for chewed corners in boxes before you move and good luck! And read this to your cats-maybe it will inspire them. :-)

Thanks. Yeah, I'll have to check the boxes before I move...pain in the ass. My trap has not caught anything. I don't know what that means. If they're still around I don't know what they're eating, if they're not coming into the kitchen. There's no food in those boxes!
